FFF features YAC Alum John McBride(Rio Mesa High 2002). John was a two sport star for the Spartans (football & Basketball). John decided to attend Moorpark College to play basketball but after redshirting his freshmen year, then realized football was his ticket for a college scholarship. he went out for the team and ended up starting at free safety for the Raiders. At 6’4 210 he was an imposing figure on the field and earned more than a handful of D1 offers choosing Weber St...ate. He did very well for the Wildcats and was a two time All Big Sky selection at safety. After receiving his Bachelor’s degree, he had a few tryouts with the Canadian Football League and with an overseas team. After contemplating his future, John chose to stay home and began working at a credit union for next 4 years before being accepted into the Oxnard Police Academy. He then moved his way up to the SWAT team and is now entering his twelfth year with the OPD. He is married to his lovely wife Kirby and they have three children. John really enjoys working with at-risk youth and helping the families in our community. He has been a part of YAC since 2004 and has enjoyed giving back and working with the youth and the next generation of yac members, helping them build confidence, make good choices and teaching them how to trust God! FFF features YAC Alum Brandon Selvey(Buena High 2010). Brandon was an 3 yr performer for the Bulldogs, helping them to a 10-2 record his senior year. He was a scholar athlete sporting a 4.3 GPA and earned a scholarship to Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. He was a 4 year letterman for the Bobcats, as a receiver, helping them restart their program in 2010. He helped lead them to a 7-3 record his senior year and garnered honors as an NWC Scholar Athlete selection. He... graduated with his BS Degree in Exercise science and a minor in Business Administration. He then chose to continue his physical therapy degree and attend Chapman University in Irvine, Ca. Brandon specialized in orthopedic rehabilitation and injury prevention as well as neurological rehabilitation for concussions and fall prevention. He earned his doctorates degree in PT and also has his CSCS certification for strength and conditioning. He now resides in Ventura and along with his Physical Therapy work, he started his own business called Movement Medicine working with athletes and helping them develop a base to prevent injuries and maximize performance as well as helping them recover from injuries so can get back on field of play as soon as possible. Brandon has always had a big heart for the youth and enjoyed giving back to YAC throughout his career in college and now he’s living out his dream in his hometown providing a unique program for all athletes.
