Unitarian Universalist Coastside Community 02.02.2021

Clovice Lewis, Jr. returns to UUCC on January 17th, 11am, with a sermon entitled Martin and Malcolm Were Both Right. People often tend to compare Martin Luther King, Jr.'s approach towards the Civil Rights movement in the United States with Malcolm X's approach. Some feel our country "dodged a bullet" by taking King's non-violent path. Many of us are aware that both men expressed very nuanced opinions that contradicted the public perceptions of their positions. This sermon examines how those nuances speak powerfully to the historical confluences that shape our racial challenges to this day. Toe-tapping music will be provided by Mo Robinson and Shauna Pickett-Gordon. Email [email protected] for Zoom link and password.

What a pleasure it was working with Tricia Dell and Janie Bono-James on UUCC's December fundraiser. So happy the $4500 raised is going to such a great organization here on the Coast.

For January 2021, the congregational theme is Consolation and Desolation. On January 3rd, Bill Heavlin explores this topic through a sermon entitled "With These Mere Bones to Lean On." Inspired by the New Zealand prime minister's response to the March 2019 shootings at three mosques, Bill connects the ability to console both to UU values and to the disciplined pursuit of self-knowledge and curiosity about other people. Beautiful music will be provided by Tom Devine and LindaGrace Frost. Please email [email protected] for Zoom link and password. Online service starts at 11am.

Thanks to everyone who attended our UUCC Annual All-Music Special, programmed by Shauna Pickett-Gordon. If you didn't have a chance to attend, here is the link to the 60 minute special, including 3 original songs from Mo Robinson in the Gathering Music period. https://tinyurl.com/y8tnf2fs UUCC has a tradition of raising funds for a Coastside non-profit every December. This year, 100% of the collection is going to Coastside Adult Day Health Center. CADHC was particularly hard ...hit by the COVID closures, with the cancellation of Dream Machines and The Pumpkin Festival. After learning Dream Machines would also be cancelled in April 2021, it was easy to decide where our efforts should go. We encourage you to make a generous gift to support the vital work of Coastside Adult Day Health before the year's end. We raised over $3,000 to date and our goal is $5,200. https://www.coastsideadultdayhealth.org/contribute Leave No Senior Behind is the motto of CADHC. So let's make sure we keep the work of Executive Director, Janie Bono-James, R.N., as a high priority for the holiday season with many isolated seniors needing their support. Happy Holidays from all of us at UUCC.

What better way to celebrate the holidays than attend UUCC's Annual All-Music Holiday Program on Sunday December 20th! Tap your toes to six (yes, that's 6!) original holiday tunes by Mo Robinson. Other talented musicians include Shauna Pickett-Gordon, piano; Pamela Carrington-Tribble, flute and vocals; Vera Vanderschalk, classical guitar; and singers: LindaGrace Frost, Tom Devine, MPUUC Choir & Friends, and Krista Enos' Advanced A Cappella Ensemble. Come early since music starts this Sunday, December 20th, at 10:45am over Zoom. 100% of our holiday collection will support the vital work of the Coastside Adult Day Health Center. CADHC makes it possible for many local seniors and adults with disabilities to stay at home and out of nursing homes. Email [email protected] for link and password.
