Join us for the opening reception of kalayaan, part of KSW and Balay Kreative's virtual storytelling project, Pilipinx Virtual Histories! Pilipinx Virtual Histories: kalayaan (till every grass blade is afire from every other) responds to a recurring theme in interviews Kearny Street Workshop recorded with San Francisco Pilipinx artists. inspired by the multigenerational interviews conducted by Balay Kreative and KSW’s Pilipinx Virtual Histories, kalayaan (till every grass bla...de is afire from every other) explores how underground spaces & cultures have influenced Pilipinx artists in San Francisco, & vice versa. Taking the form of an infoshop (a kind of underground space described by the Berkeley anarchist magazine Slingshot as a cross between a radical bookstore & a movement archive), the exhibition draws connections between artists, archives, & distribution networks circulating subversive cultures. Be a part of Kapwa Gardens history with a dedicated donor plaque! As you may know, in honor of Marco Jastillana, UNDSCVRD launched the Brownthought Academy (BTA) - a marketing bootcamp & internship designed to pass on Marco’s teachings and deep love for the community to the next generation of leaders. BTA’s final project was to launch campaigns to fund the next internship program for a second year. In celebration of kapwa, the Filipino spiritual belief of interconnectedness, ...we are launching adopt-a-tree donor plaques. Plaques will be displayed at Kapwa Gardens, a healing garden space filled with lush plants and fragrant calamansi trees. bit.ly/3sujpMa

A tribute video to our brother, friend, and team member, Marco Jastillana, who we lost a year ago, January 9, 2020. Marco was a marketing and creative genius unlike any other. It was his idea to do a night market initially, and he came up with the name UNDISCOVERED SF - we wouldn't be where we are without him today. We miss you and love you forever, Marco. #ForeverMarcozy Watch the tribute video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7E6gR5G5R4

Prop H has passed in San Francisco, which, "is intended to make it easier for small new businesses like storefronts and restaurants to open and for existing ones to change the type of business they engage in, by reducing the time it takes to get permits. ...According to a September Yelp report, approximately 3,000 businesses have closed permanently across the Bay Area since shelter-in-place health orders crucial in curbing the spread of the coronavirus took effect in mid-...March." We're rooting for small businesses like ASMBLY HALL to make it through these tough times with this reform. bit.ly/34Wypbz

As #FAHM comes to a close, we wanted to share an interview by UNDSCVRD Music Curator Marky Proof Enriquez did with DJMiamor, a 16 year old DJ we discovered on Twitch. Her classic R&B sound mixed with future beats was impressive at such a young age. But what really drew me in was Mia’s pure joy while spinning... Feeling the music is just something you can’t teach. We sat down with DJMiamor to chat about how she got started, who her influences are, and what it means to be Filipino in South London. Be sure to follow Mia on her twitch channel twitch.tv/djmiamor where she spins regularly. Inabel nga Indayon (Inabel Cradle) is a project by Rachel Lozada who is very humbled and excited to creatively and culturally engage the Filipino-American community in traditional Ilocano weaving. Inabel is the term for Ilocano handwoven fabrics. Join us for the first workshop on 10/25 when Rachel joins Undiscovered Sundays, a collaboration between Undiscovered SF and Sunday Streets in the heart of SOMA Pilipinas from 1:30-3:30 PM! Participants can expect to find out more a...bout the project, basic Ilocano weaving, and to try their hands learning basic weaving skills. Participation will be on a sliding scale ($5-10, no one turned away for lack of funds) mostly to defray the cost of mini-weaving kits which each participant gets to bring home. It will be strictly compliant with Covid-19 safety measures (face masks, hand hygiene, social distancing, small group size). Attendance slots are limited, so register soon.
