Hello Again, Also this winter, the Triton Transfer Hub and the International Peer Coaching Program are piloting a small Study Buddies program for Triton Transfers and international students. We are hoping this program can bring like-minded transfers together with the goal of studying while also building community. Our intention is to get students linked by filling out a survey between now and the beginning of Fall, with the intention to have them matched by the end of Week 2. Because this is a pilot and we want to be intentional with our matching, we are offering this to students the three departments with the largest transfer populations: Economics, Psychology, and the Division of Biological Sciences. The marshmallow test revisited! The classic marshmallow test has shaped the way researchers think about the development of self-control, which is an important skill, said Gail Heyman, a University of California San Diego professor of psychology and lead author on the study. We had our first Transfer 1:1 advising appointments today! Said one of our students: "Going into this appointment, I was expecting the advisors to focus solely on fall quarter while making the academic plan. I thought students would only receive advice/input about the classes we had selected for the fall quarter and have some of our questions answered (i.e. enrollment, general questions about UCSD, etc.). I was very pleasantly surprised to see that [the advisor] gave me a ...general, but VERY helpful, outline of what my next two years would look like!... Even though I came prepared with about 5 questions, by the end of our appointment she managed to answer 4 of them without me even needing to bring them up! Regarding the advising session itself, I think these sessions are structured very well for students. Using the degree audit tool, it's made very clear to me exactly what I need to take to graduate. I think students who aren't familiar with UCSD or the degree audit learn a lot from these advising sessions. Let us know they're missing!), check over your posted coursework, and request authorization in classes for which you don't have the stated prerequisites completed (like Upper Division standing for anyone with less than 90 units!).
