Peer Health Educator Spotlight My favorite thing about being a PHE is the complete acceptance and unconditional love that I receive from my fellow PHEs. This being my first year as a PHE and it being completely virtual I have never met 99% of these people in real life. And yet, I feel that I could always be completely myself around them. Moreover, we are not only aligned on our mission to improve the health and well-being of our peers which yes in and of itself is pretty special, but it’s obvious to me that we are all also aligned on just being overall stellar, loving human beings just trying to make this world better not for ourselves, but for each other. Our work and these people re-emphasize to me that no matter how different we may appear to be, we really do all have a worthy place in this world. (Ok sap fest over)

Attention Anteaters On Wednesday, February 10th, make sure to check your email to see if you were chosen to take an important survey from the American College Health Association. The survey, known as the National College Health Assessment (NCHA), is a measure of student well-being as well as focusing on students' attitudes, concerns, preventive behaviors, and their perceived support from colleges and universities in relation to COVID-19. Only half of the UCI Student body... will be selected for the survey, and will be chosen at random. Students who complete the survey will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a $25 or $50 Gift Card*! So help us, help you! We are eager to hear your thoughts and will use that to better the UCI Community. The survey closes on Sunday, March 7th, and several email reminders will be sent to those chosen to take the survey. The email will NOT be coming from a uci.edu email address, so look out for NCHA/ACHA emails.

Fun and festive holiday drinks don’t need to contain alcohol! Our amazing PHE’s, Cathy, Kayla, Nathan, and special guest Mochi the dog, have put together this super easy recipe for Apple Moscow Mule Mocktails that are perfect for the cold weather and holiday season. Mocktails like these are a fantastic way to have some fun drinks without having to drink alcohol. People may not want to drink alcohol for personal, religious, or legal reasons so it’s nice to have something like ...a trendy and fun drink to celebrate. If you’re over 21, alcohol can be added, but we encourage you to drink responsibly and moderately. Stay safe out there this holiday season! Ingredients - one shake of Cinnamon - one shake of Nutmeg - Ice - 1/2 cup Ginger Beer - 1/2 cup Apple Juice - 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice - 1 Cinnamon Stick - 1 Apple Slice for garnish Instructions - Shake cinnamon and nutmeg into the bottom of the glass. You don't need to much, just a light dusting. - Add the ice. Then pour the ginger beer, apple juice, and lemon juice into the glass. Add vodka if you like. - Lightly stir with a cinnamon stick and add an apple slice garnish. Serve immediately. December 1 is World AIDS Day, a day to unite in the global response to HIV/AIDS, support people living with HIV, and honor lives lost to the HIV epidemic. We’ve made tremendous strides in dealing with the HIV virus and AIDS, both medically and culturally. New medicines, including the increasingly popular PrEP drugs, are ensuring that we are moving ever closing to containing and potentially eradicating this disease. PrEP is a once-daily pill that reduces the risk of getting HI...V from sex by more than 90%. Among people who inject drugs, it reduces the risk by more than 70%. Your risk of getting HIV from sex can be even lower if you combine PrEP with condoms and other prevention methods. Ready, Set, PrEP is a nationwide program that makes PrEP medications available at no cost to individuals who lack prescription drug coverage. Although more than one million people who are at risk for HIV in the United States could benefit from pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) medications, fewer than one in four receive it. To address a cost barrier for some individuals who might otherwise wish to use PrEP, theU.S. Department of Health and Human Services(HHS) launched Ready, Set, PrEP in December 2019, as an integral part of the Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative.
