TCO News Free Yogi Handbook Offer on orders over $200 Once again we are offering a free Yogi PCT or CDT handbook with each purchase over $200.00... Changes for 2021 We need to make changes going into 2021. We want to be completely transparent in the changes, and why we decided to make them. Darn Tough Sock Exchange Historically during TCO’s busy season we exchange 25 pairs of Darn Tough socks per day. We felt exchanging socks was something we had to do as a service to hikers. What we found out was that it takes a ton of space and time. At the end of the 2019 season we exchanged over 1,000 pair of socks and 85% of them were for an REI customer. If TCO is to succeed we cannot be just a warranty replacement center for REI. In closing, if you buy your Darn Tough socks from TCO we can exchange them. If you bought them elsewhere you will have to contact your retailer or Darn Tough directly. #pacificcresttrail #pct2021

I had the honor of being interviewed by Clay Bonnyman Evans for his "The Trek" article regarding permits. 2021 PCT hikers are concerned about permitting. The PCT Long Distance Permit is a fantastic resource, I'm glad it exists, and it is the easiest way to comply with permit regulations. However, it is NOT required. Instead of the PCT Long Distance Permit, you could legally hike using local permits. A list of local permits is under the GEAR TALK tab at www.triplecrownoutfi...tters.com When you board a plane, you are required to have identification: Driver's License, Passport Card, or Passport Book. Any of those works. Same logic applies to permitting on the PCT: if you are in an area that requires a permit, that permit could be the PCT Long Distance Permit or a local permit. Either works. https://thetrek.co/uncertainty-and-strife-thru-hiking-per/

Here in Kennedy Meadows, we are about 12 miles from one of the big fires. Ash falls from the sky. The smoke is absolutely awful. Breathing outside is like breathing from someone's expelled cigarette smoke. There are no birds. There are no flies. I haven't seen my feral cats. My inside animals are clearly confused; they don't leave my side. I guess 2020 is not finished with us yet. :( https://www.pcta.org//unprecedented-and-dangerous-fire-c/

Most AZT hikers do a rim to rim without even thinking. Obviously Outside isn't writing solely for thru-hikers. The tread is awesome, the trail isn't that steep. The climbs aren't that tough. Most people go far too late in the year. Go before the snow melts on the north side. The bottom of the canyon has summer-like heat and the north rim will have 4' of snow. Don't wait past April and it is just another hike.

Many hikers this season have asked for crystallized cockroach milk. We just haven't been able to find a supplier. When we get more information we will communicate via Facebook. Please hold all availability questions until that time.

Every day PCT hikers here in Kennedy Meadows ask us if they need an ice axe. Yes, the snow is melting. Yes, it is a low snow year for the Sierra. And YES, there are still snow/ice dangers out there. Please take an ice axe and traction devices. Please be careful. We have ice axes and spikes in stock. We can fit you for the gear and show you how to use it. Any questions, shoot us a message or call 559-302-9943. Here are a couple messages we just received today from hikers in the Sierra.

Two words: COOKIE BUTTER OMG, OMG, OMG, it is freakin' delicious! When two of our first 15 hikers asked if we carried cookie butter, I figured I should get some for our shop. It arrived yesterday, I popped open a jar to taste it. The jar was empty before I went to bed. Yes, it is that good. It will be interesting to see what is more popular in our store: Nutella or Cookie Butter.... Find it here: www.triplecrownoutfitters.com, RESUPPLY SNACKS, NUT BUTTERS AND SPREADS

March 14, 2020 First things first: Yes, we understand that the COVID-19 situation is scary/confusing/fluid/etc. The impact to people who have been exposed, who have fallen ill, who have passed away is tragic. For folks who are continuing with their PCT plans: YES, you will be able to get food and gear resupply in Kennedy Meadows at Triple Crown Outfitters (PCT mile 702). If you look at our website (www.triplecrownoutfitters.com), you will see that most food items, sanitizer, ...wipes, and much of the gear shows out of stock. DO NOT WORRY. We actually have the items in stock. However, we are holding back our inventory so it is available to you lucky PCT hikers when you arrive here in Kennedy Meadows. YES, you can absolutely resupply here at Triple Crown Outfitters, with a wide variety of food/flavor choices, at low prices. See the 2019 hiker comments on Guthook. YES, you can absolutely replace or purchase new gear/clothing here at Triple Crown Outfitters. YES, you can absolutely rent bear canisters at Triple Crown Outfitters and join our Sierra Gear Buy-Back Program. We moved to Kennedy Meadows for many reasons: --- This is a beautiful part of the world. --- We wanted to live near the PCT. --- We enjoyed our time here during our PCT hikes. --- The existing business charged way too much for resupply, and we knew we could offer inexpensive resupply to future PCT’ers. --- We have extensive hiking experience, and we enjoy helping/encouraging others to continue their PCT dreams. Yes, we really do enjoy helping hikers! And, yes, we operate a business. We are here for YOU, PCT hikers. We keep our prices very low (because we’ve had to pay $4 for a Snickers at other places, and that is ridiculous!). But we also count on you as customers! Please do not send a resupply package to Kennedy Meadows. Please consider purchasing your food resupply, Sierra gear, and replacement gear from Triple Crown Outfitters. I assure you that we have excellent resupply, gear, and clothing choices available. In fact, if you want to pre-order your Kennedy Meadows food resupply, just shoot us an email. The food items show out of stock on our website because we are saving those items for PCT hikers, rather than for doomsday-preppers. We are happy to put together a resupply and have it waiting for you when you arrive. We appreciate your business, and we feed off of your energy! If you have any questions or concerns, please email or call. Please only call between 7am-7pm Pacific Time, as this is our home phone number. Thanks, and we look forward to meeting you! Hello PCT 2020'ers! We have received many phone calls and emails lately regarding hiker food resupply here in Kennedy Meadows. There is no need to send a resupply package here. Triple Crown Outfitters has a WIDE range of hiker resupply options at very low prices. ... Look at the RESUPPLY tab on www.triplecrownoutfitters.com to see the foods we will carry during hiker season (psssst . . . . we are adding even more options for 2020!!!). Don't worry that most of the food shows out of stock now. We wait to buy all food around the first week of April. That ensures that everything is fresh. Even though we are in a very remote location, we keep our resupply prices low. Many of our items are below grocery store prices, due to the deals we have negotiated with food vendors. Check out the comments on Guthook from 2019 hikers. Because our food selection is geared specifically toward hikers, we have much more hiker food variety than even the biggest supermarkets. Don’t limit yourself to whatever you can find at a supermarket or small resort store. Select your food here, we will ship it to any PCT address! This service was very popular with 2019 hikers. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to email or call. See you soon!
