Safety in construction comes in many different forms. Whether working to mitigate hazards or making sure safety measures are taught and being followed, every company wants to improve their safety practices and record. #constructionsafetyweek is a great time for everyone to showcase what they are doing to make sure safety is their top priority. A Job Safety Analysis (JSA) is a great way to identify, mitigate, and document hazards on a work site. The technique has several main... components, starting first with identifying a job, breaking it down into tasks and steps, and then identifying the potential hazards that can occur related to each task. The last component of a JSA is to identify steps to mitigate the potential hazards. Standardizing and automating your JSA's while incorporating into safety into your planning process is a great opportunity to make improvements to your safety practice. Check out our blog post that goes in depth on the importance of JSA's and how to create an effective JSA! https://bit.ly/3erBrJN

We are excited to announce some brand new updates to our software! Let's break them down for everyone. Optimized Constraints Checklist: Creating a constraints checklists from scratch for every work package is a bit too time consuming. That's why we decided to overhaul it and make it much more efficient. The new update applies a standard list of constraints to any new constraint checklist that is created. Improved Access to Client Feedback Survey: With social distancing and de...vice sanitation requirements, collecting feedback face-to-face becomes quite the ordeal. That's why we added the ability to collect feedback from anywhere. This promotes more consistent collection and overall ease of access for everyone involved. User Access for Safety Managers: Safety managers rule when it comes to establishing guidelines and ensuring everyone complies. That's why we added a new user role specific to safety managers that allows them to build and modify the safety database, along with setting up daily JSA's. Check out all of the updates here: https://bit.ly/341ODR1

Identifying and Solving Productivity Issues A few years back, McKinsey & Company released The construction productivity imperative, an article focused on productivity and cost-related challenges the construction industry faces, factors as to why, and suggestions on how to improve results. Following the publication of the article, the industry saw a sizable increase in construction tech investment. Many #contech firms put forth the assertion that their solutions will solve the... problem simply by measuring productivity. Yes, measuring construction productivity is important for forecasting labor cost and project completion dates, but doing this alone does not solve the problem. Even if you are meeting your estimated production rates, do you really believe your crews are performing at maximum efficiency? https://bit.ly/31kSmFY

Social distancing for contractors is a task that is going to be challenging for most. Managing social distancing perfectly will be exceptionally difficult but there are ways to effectively implement social distancing at the jobsite. The primary way to practice social distancing will be focused around planning. Proper planning is the key to succeeding in working within the new guidelines and will be the focus of many companies. https://bit.ly/2DjaNCD

COVID-19 affected every industry in a multitude of ways. Many industries were stuck trying to find a way to continue operating. Many industries found themselves failing quickly because of the lack of operations. This led to a massive amount of our country's workforce being unemployed. The construction industry was no different. Many companies found it hard to operate efficiently. COVID-19 caused unexpected delays, a lack of personnel on the jobsite, and many other problems t...o the industry and how it operates. Fortunately, the construction industry seems to be rebounding quickly. We are seeing working hours increasing, jobs progressing, and a steady rise back to what the industry was used to overall. Our partners at Cotney Construction Law wrote a great article on how the construction industry is seemingly making a great turnaround. https://bit.ly/2WQ0blW

Training frontline supervisors is a passion of ours that grew from our combined years in the construction industry. Being in the industry for so long made us realize that there are many opportunities to improve day-to-day operations on a jobsite. One major way is to increase efficiency. Based on a combination of our experience and industry best practices, we built a system that eases the workload of frontline supervisors and their crews. Our labor management application enab...les project teams to quickly develop weekly plans for crews, ensuring they have everything they need before the work begins so that field execution is efficient. This allows crew leaders to better manage their work, be more productive, and improve safety all while reducing waste. "The first software I have seen that is clearly designed by a contractor for contractors that self-perform their work. It’s not just the features but how the process of short interval planning, scheduling and reporting is built into the system." - Jasmin DeLisle, Project Manager at JTS Modular. Skilled trades are a great career path for students who are graduating high school. There has been some increase in the recent years when it comes to informing students about skilled trades, however, there needs to be a stronger push into the school system in order to give students the freedom to choose the path they want to take after graduation. The trades should not be seen as a "fallback" option for those who do not have interest in pursuing a college degree. It is important for students to be made aware that skilled trades are available to them should they be interested, and that starting a job in the trades can result in a successful career path. https://bit.ly/3eOD0hV

Value engineering is an important practice which is especially useful for the construction industry since it allows for cheaper alternatives without throwing away the quality of the job. Making sure that the job is completed at maximum performance is not only the goal for most construction companies, but a necessity as well. To be certain that a project is completed and up to par with what was asked requires the quality of the work to match what is requested. Often times there is no skimming around a project without sacrificing the quality of the project overall. With value engineering, jobsites can look to save money and improve efficiency without making their quality take a hit. https://bit.ly/3jlgbG0
