Our instincts as parents are to care for and protect our children, and that is a good thing. But sometimes, this instinct can become a destructive force. It can consume us mentally and emotionally and it can cloud our judgment. It can hurt us as parents, damage relationships and ultimately it can hurt the children we are trying to help. This is an educational video for parents that will cover codependency as an addiction with Tree House Recovery’s own Karen Willock who runs ...Tree House Recovery's National Family Progam and Vechi Mutum. Our goal is to help you understand what codependency is and the damage it can cause you and your child. This will help you know whether or not you may be codependent and give you strategies you can use to begin healing so you can begin rebuilding healthy relationships and ultimately live a better life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Iy9RlAr_iw

Brent and Rambo showed up in a big way this morning to film an educational video on how exercise helps heal the effects of addiction. Brent works every day to help men rebuild their lives from the ground up, and spent his Saturday morning filming so more people can find hope and learn about solutions. Thanks for your dedication Brent! Stay tuned for Brent’s upcoming video. #dedication #addictionrecovery #fitnessjourney

ABIT Therapist, Bryan Hallmann and Tree House graduate Scott S, illustrating our use of eye contact during our pad work exercise designed to rewire the addicted brain. One of the extraordinary things that we do differently from all other SUD treatment centers is helping clients build optimized minds to connect with other human beings. As social animals, humans are all uniquely wired to connect. This is a fundamental need for us, and when we don't have strong social bonds, our... genetics responds with sadness, pain, anxiety, and depression. And when addiction is part of the equation, people tend to use drugs and alcohol to self-soothe. That use typically leads to shame, guilt, and regret -- bringing more isolation, pain, and drug use. This loop of pain, isolation, and drugs is hard to break and can keep people stuck in the downward spiral of active addiction. At Tree House Recovery, we know that you can't think and talk your way out of this cycle and into a socially connected, happy, and optimized way of being with just "Talk Therapy." Breaking this cycle requires deep bonds with humans, which is why we use a custom style of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) in Portland, Oregon called ABIT (Action Based Induction Therapy). In ABIT, it's not about fighting; it's about deep connections. You're doing pad work with your teammates that require empathy, interpersonal attunement, impulse control, emotional regulation, and morality. All of these exercises strengthen the Prefrontal Cortex (PFC) and rewire your brain as you build the tight bonds with treatment peers that will ultimately help stay sober and break the social and emotional cycle of addiction. Our clients leave with a strong support network and an engaged PFC, which drives them to develop healthy and empowering relationships with others. Addiction isn't the opposite of sobriety -- isolation is. Staying connected is a fundamental aspect of staying sober. And ABIT is just one of our 8 interconnected modalities aimed at treating the social, physical, and mental roots of addiction. To learn more, visit our website or give us a call.

A great article explaining why Tree House Recovery’s Exercise Therapy (ESM) helps sobriety. https://www.endominance.com/addiction-the-prefrontal-corte/ Several studies have linked Substance Abuse Disorder (SUD) with low performance in the pre-frontal cortex (PFC) -- an area that inhibits the feel-good rewards system activated by drugs and alcohol. ... Exercise releases proteins that strengthen the PFC. This leads to greater self-control, stress tolerance, and improved goal-directed behavior. Put simply? Regular exercise can reduce and control your cravings. Here's a breakdown of the article: https://treehouserecovery.com//addiction-vs-exercise-tree/

Fitness Training when done with greater intentions in addition to physical health, can do so much for your growth as a human and especially so in recovery. Every week we have a theme that we teach in ESM fitness therapy, to help inspire that change with knowledge and health. This week is vicissitudes. 5 days a week every week, we grow beyond our old selves. #treehouserecovery #fitnesstherapy #addiction #motivation #inspirechange #vision

Success is greater when you have a network of friends and loved ones, or support of any sort. During these unique times you can find ways to still connect. Whether that's online meetings, or doing what this author did (he did this way before the pandemic actually started). by writing thank you letters to every one that has helped you Even when everything in the world is reopened, this is still something that can be done if you feel alone.
