I went old school with my Christmas cake this year - marzipan, royal icing and frosted leaves! Must be 1979. Merry Christmas to those who celebrate!

Happy first Birthday to Cara, who was born in the year of the pig. She's celebrating with some balloons and a birthday cake to share. The name is hand-painted. The gold dots are painted edible image paper and cut with a hole-punch.

I absolutely LOVED making this cake. I know it's not a big deal for most, but I went right out of my comfort zone to paint Pooh and Piglet and the tree. And I am so proud of myself! HAHA! I sponged blue and white diluted gel color on very pale blue fondant, sponged on the green around the bottom and then painted on the clouds, grass and bees. This is based on a design by Baked in Nashville. Thank you!

Black and gold cake for a 30th birthday party. Black-colored dark chocolate ganache finish, gold-painted dark chocolate ganache drip, gold-painted tempered chocolate sail (thank you, Sugar Geek Show for the tempering tutorial!) toasted swiss meringue, blackberries and gold-dusted chocolate truffles.

Happy 25th Birthday to Travis, who restores old VW Beetles. His wife surprised him with his favorite vanilla cake with caramel buttercream. Cake is 15" long and took 15 hours to decorate. An hour an inch!

Amazing to have a client like Ami. This is the 25th cake I have made for her, and she pretty much gives me a theme and lets me get on with it. However, once I saw The Violet Cake Shop's llama cake, I wanted to recreate it so much, I told Ami that's what she was having for her daughter Ellie's birthday. The cake made the cover of Cake Masters May issue, so I snapped it up to follow the tutorial inside. ... Thank you, Violet, for your wonderful imagination, and your fantastic tutorial! Thank you, Ami, for letting me be the bossiest cake lady around, and for always choosing me.

When your 9 year old client asks for a gold pineapple on top of a turquoise geode cake, that's what you make! And if you're wondering, yes, I forgot to take the pieces of paper towel out from between the leaves of the pineapple before photographing it. :-D

The theme won't set the world alight, but I love how this cake turned out! I hoped and hoped and hoped my client would agree to toys on the cake, but she really wanted me to model Nemo, Marlin and Dory, so I gave it a go. Sitting down with a covered cake and a tray full of pre-made decor makes me a happy girl.

A little lemon and raspberry dessert cake. I'm working on my buttercream skillz which are almost non-existent. Took some great advice from my friend at Sugar Mill Cake Co. (aka Overlord of Buttercream) and am making progress. Beating the SMBC on low (even without a full bowl) for ten minutes beat out the air bubbles and made all the difference. I used the Pro Froster to help with the sharp edges. This is SMBC with a seived raspberry puree beaten in. Inside is lemon cake, homemade lemon curd (recipe below - it's weird, but it works) and more rapsberry buttercream. http://www.finecooking.com/recipes/lemon_curd.aspx
