A Step Beyond

Hello to everyone who has stumbled across this page. I imagine you know a young one who may be struggling to read and my heart is with you as you explore options. I am happy to be a resource. While I do not have my private practice full time any longer because I am now the reading specialist at Los Olivos Elementary School, I do see students privately. I know this can be a confusing journey, but please know there is so much knowledge around this challenge and there is no reason a child should continue to struggle with reading without the right help, whether diagnosed with dyslexia or not. When you are thinking about accommodations and modifications for your child, think first about survival skills, then flourishing skills. In this video David Flink gives very pertinent real life examples from his own childhood. Survival skills will help your child get by, while flourishing skills use your child's strengths to help him or her be successful.
