Message to our patients and families: We take the safety of our staff, our families, our patients and our patients’ families very seriously. For the past 72 hours, we have been thinking about our role in social distancing, especially because as an orthodontics office we come into intimate contact with many people every day. While the government has yet to officially close dental offices on a temporary basis, I feel that we as orthodontists need to be proactive and postpone ...our non-emergent appointments for the next two weeks. We fully understand the inconvenience this places on our patients and their families and the disappointment for those scheduled to get their braces off. However, by postponing all of our non-emergency orthodontic appointments for the next two weeks, we will be doing our part in helping to flatten the curve that will hopefully save the lives of many of our loved ones who are in the most susceptible group to contract severe illness and death. We will be available to make all of our patients comfortable if they have something painful like a poking wire that cannot be handled over the phone with verbal instructions. We will be calling to reschedule those who have appointments in the next two weeks. In addition, we will temporarily discontinue the use of hand pieces as these create aerosols. We will continue to monitor guidance from the California Department of Health, the California Dental Board and the Centers for Disease Control. This is an unchartered situation with more information coming out all of the time, and we will continue to stay in contact with all of our patients for further updates. This is our opportunity to do our part as a society and help out each other and protect the most vulnerable. This will soon pass and we look forward to seeing everyone soon.
