a year ago today I was shooting this babe in an effort to say goodbye to the city I called home for 12 years. I'm so happy to call Portland home now, and I'm so happy my husband is joining me this weekend. There's not a lot I miss as of yet. But there are people i miss, and this chick is one of them. Let's shoot up here in the woods soon

Just out here in Oregon taking the best photos of my life. . But seriously though, ever since I moved here I've been dying to shoot "night sky over mount hood" and put my aurora borealis photography learnin's to the test. So this weekend when I was out at Lost Lake it became a must do. The evening I had planned to do it, my camera battery started flashing. It was about to die (I had no spare battery and no power source - lesson learned!). I knew I had very little time to ge...t the shot. I sat there, in the dark fiddling around trying different exposures and not getting anywhere near what I wanted. I snapped this and as I went to review I caught a glimpse (enough to make me excited!) and the camera died. I didn't get to see it until 14 hours later! It was like developing film again. But it was worth the wait, I'm so chuffed! . Inspired by my grandfather's notes on all the photos in his albums, here are the specs: shot on Canon 5D Mark iii, 40mm prime lens, ISO 2500, 30 sec exposure at 2.8 fstop. During the exposure I used my headlamp to paint in the foreground and create the illumination effect. Very minimally edited, adjusted contrast and removed extra light flares from the headlamp. Let's give them something to talk about. . But literally though, this little vintage store near Montmartre, Paris translate as "the talking object". I'm sure the dismembered vintage mannequin hand I purchased will be a talking point for years to come.
