Meet our Belles of the Week, the Student Leadership Council Freshman Mentors: Dana ‘21, Simone ‘22, Vivian ‘22, and Chim ‘23,. Blue Tie moderator, Ms. Gorder, says, "I am so thankful to the Freshman Mentors for all of the hard work they have put into getting the freshmen involved on campus this year. From helping the freshmen earn their ties, to creating and running a virtual bulletin board committee, and even assisting them with academic and life skills, such as email etique...tte, they have worked tirelessly to make the freshmen feel a part of the SMA community. Most recently, they are piloting the idea of "Blue Tie Chats," which will provide a space for the Blue Ties to meet virtually and get to know each other in new ways outside of the classroom." Thank you, Belles, for being great examples to our youngest students on campus! #smabelles #belleoftheweek #sisterhood #CSW21 See more
Engineering Pathway students are learning 21st century collaboration skills and serving #thedearneighbor in the process. A team of #smabelles in ACE Mentor Program are beginning a semester long design to produce a proposal for affordable temporary housing for housing insecure people. The abstract of the request for proposals that the ACE team is responding to shows this is a project that responds to real needs in Los Angeles. This project will require the student teams to inv...estigate the needs for such a facility and respond with a design meeting those needs under the constraints of a real estate limitations. This design will use many of the modern industry remote collaboration tools. Embracing this technology allows the SMA engineering students to achieve the desired engineering design even with our forced remote learning. #service #CSW21 2020-2021 ACE MENTOR LOS ANGELES/ORANGE COUNTY SPRING DESIGN PROJECT REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL (RFP) ABSTRACT: One of the most urgent crises in Los Angeles currently is the availability of shelter for the unhoused. Dignified affordable housing stock is needed all over the city. At the end of 2020, there were approximately 66,400 unhoused individuals in Los Angeles county. This was a 12% rise from 2019 and is expected to be higher for 2021 and that number is at risk for spiking after February 1, 2021 if the moratorium on evictions is lifted. Approximately 66% of unhoused individuals are experiencing hard times, are underemployed, or are unhoused due to other factors that are not related to mental illness or drug use. These individuals need a safe place to rest and call home on a permanent basis, if not just long enough to get situations corrected.

Elizabeth E., Green Tie ‘21 is #belleoftheweek! Elizabeth consistently arrives to Choir class on time, fully prepared, and with a cheerful attitude that inspires everyone in the room. While writing college applications, Elizabeth mixed the class Halloween video, "Monster Mash," on which she also sings. Listen for her clear, soprano voice at the very end of the video! #smabelles #bellepride

Today is #ElectionDay. To prep for today, US History students completed an online quiz on www.isidewith.com. Students answered questions based on their beliefs. The results align them with the 2020 Presidential candidate that best aligns with their beliefs. Students were taught the importance of research and the process of voting in order for them to exercise their right to vote in the near future. #smabelles #vote Let us pray together today- Lord, let us calm our hearts and minds and trust in You. We pray for peace in our country and to show love and kindness to one another during such a time of division. Bless this Election Day, Lord. Amen
Ms. Angel explaining the common elements of an altar for #DiaDeLosMuertos.
Today, we commemorate all of the departed faithful brothers and sisters. Whoever you celebrate and honor today, know that they are in great care under the loving hands of our Lord.

#SMAdistancelearning Every year, Mr. Tran and Ms. Gorder work together to put on a #Halloween Science Show for their #chemistry and #biology classes, and they w...ere not going to let a pandemic stop them! Mr. Tran let students vote for his costume, and the winning costume was an In N Out worker. Ms. Gorder was dressed as Ariana Grande. They wowed their virtual science classes with some experiments for Ariana Grande's first day of work at In N Out! #smabelles #sciencelab See more
It's never too early to get SpOoKy in October! Student Leadership Council hosted a Halloween Hangout this afternoon In addition to Halloween Trivia, we had a virtual costume contest where students and faculty/staff could submit photos of themselves in any costume of their choice, past or present!
