Steampunk Farms Rescue Barn 22.01.2021

Ms. Kona! This gorgeous girl from Devore has been with her foster mom since overstaying her welcome at the shelter, and thanks to your help and generosity, we’ve already been able to give her diet an upgrade, and have a farrier treat her to a bit of love last weekend. Today, she sees the vet! Top on the list of concerns is the deformation in her left, front leg. We expect a straightforward diagnosis of treatable arthritis, but if the doctor recommends further diagnostics, ...then we’ll approve some imaging. Kona’s foster mom has also noticed a possible minor stifle injury, draining eyes, and patches of hair loss, so the doctor will address each of those concerns, too. We have $170 left in Kona’s donation account right now, and her farm call and exam will be $130. Additional diagnostics, treatments, and medications will clearly exceed what’s been raised so far. We have funds in the general account to cover today’s appointment, so Kona will get every service Dr. Esquival deems necessary. If you’d like to play a part in this sweet mare’s comfortable retirement, we are accepting donations of pipe corral panels to expand our horse facilities, and/or cash donations to buy used panels from local sellers. We never know when a great deal will show up on marketplace, but we’re always looking, and we like to always have money set aside to jump on the unbeatable deals when they arise! Thank you, All, for the outpouring of love for Ms. Kona, and stay tuned for another update after we talk with her doctor this afternoon!

WE’VE GOT SNOW! Again. No one is more over it than Rory, our barn cat turned fancy feline. He can still throw down for a dirt bath, or a roll in fresh spring grass, but compared to the standoffish, 100% outdoor feral he once was, this boy is retired. Enter: Huey, Dewey, and Louie, the boys saved from euthanasia on Wednesday. They’re settling in, and showed some personalities during crate cleanings this afternoon...... Huey is the feistiest of the three, quick to swat and hiss, but pinning his ears back less today than previously. He just may tolerate us someday! Dewey came to us with a few wounds on his face, proof that he was no stranger to orneriness and/or aggression. He was given antibiotics while in the shelter, and he’s healing just fine. Though, his scabs and scars may be the warmest, fuzziest things about him. If those eyes could kill...you know you got a chill just scrolling by! Louie is a hunk. With his flowing hair and air of nonchalance, he’s headed straight to Cat-ercrombie & Scritch if this barn cat gig doesn’t work out. Since there’s been no cat patrolling the barn since Rory moved indoors over a year ago, we took a look around this morning, and found that entropy has taken its toll on our barn cat village. However, with the recent transfer of our community chicken flocks from the barn to their new Hoop Coops, we have an ideal opportunity to move Feral Cat HQ to a larger space, closer to the center of the barn. The new area will be over a pot belly stall, utilizing vertical space that ground-based pigs will never miss! We have some pieces from the old Cat HQ to move, and $300 worth of pieces we’ve already ordered to enrich and protect the new, larger space. We also created an Amazon Wish List for the cats, for anyone who would like to help us entertain these 3 furry souls, and the 3-5 additional ferals we will have room to house after this expansion. Check it out at https://smile.amazon.com//19VZ84SSW/ref=smi_ext_lnk_lcl_cl, and have a Happy #FeralCatFriday!
