Starlight Dance Studio

Due to recent confirmed outbreaks of COVID-19 affecting our sister studios nearby, we have made the very difficult decision to prioritize the health and safety of everyone who dances at Starlight by temporarily suspending our current group classes. West coast swing on Mondays will return October 26, as well as the Solo Routine class on Wednesday October 28. Jason Rivers’ Solo Ballroom Technique and Styling to resume in November. We are so grateful for the enthusiasm you hav...e shown in returning to Starlight. The dance community is home for so many of us: it's where we find our friends, it's where we escape from the everyday, it's where we feel simultaneously unique and connected. Returning to it has been a brief glimpse of normalcy and comfort that we all have been missing dearly. The safety of this community we call home is exactly the reason we cannot continue classes at this time. We are trying our hardest to do what is right with information that comes as last minute to us as it does to you. We apologize for the quick changes in policy and for the unfamiliar way we have had to run classes and lessons as a result. Starlight is a long-standing home for many of the San Diego partner dance communities, but it is also a business whose owner is facing as many fears as you are. Dance studios all over the world are a business of passion, not profit. As much as we love to dance, our studio needs electricity, air conditioning, and plumbing to continue to stay open and comfortable for your use. Every hour that we are open has a utility cost and our diminished capacity means we can only be open for so long each week before it threatens the future of Starlight as a studio. Your floor fees, your group class fees they all help to keep Starlight open, not just this month, but we hope for years to come. Below you will find the new calendar with details about what classes are canceled for the rest of October. We are monitoring local and state policies closely to stay up to date on requirements for our dance studio. Our changes stated here today are based on knowledge from the CDC about the incubation period of COVID-19. We hope to be able to stick to this plan and reopen in November, but if further changes need to be made we will let you know as quickly as we can. If we could, we would fling our doors wide open and invite everyone to come back and fill the studio with dancing, laughter, learning, and joy again. Happy Monday! With our second week of classes beginning tonight, here's just a friendly reminder to wear your mask and wash your hands! Please stay home if you are feeling at all sick or if you have been exposed to anyone who might have been sick. We totally understand how disappointing it is to stay home and how tempting it would be to come out but for everyone's health and safety, please stay home if you think you were exposed! ... Tonight we have WCS with Michael Kielbasa at 6:30pm and 7:30pm!

More practice time now available at Starlight! With classes back at Starlight, we can expand open hours available for practice or private lessons! Week nights Monday to Wednesday - Monday 530 to 9pm. Tuesday 630 to 9pm. Wednesday 6 to 8pm. Saturday 1 to 5pm.

Starting October, we have two new solo classes! Tuesday @ 630 Jason Rivers teaching Solo Ballroom Technique and Styling The class will cover technique and styling in American Smooth. No partner needed. Masks required. Good times guaranteed!... Wednesday @ 6:30pm Michael Kielbasa teaching Solo Workout Swing/Latin Mix: All Levels welcome! Dance Movements, Patterns and Styling that are fun and energetic primarily based in Swing and Latin dance movements. You will learn solo short sequences, line dance styling options, technique, and variations that will enhance your confidence as a solo and partner dancer! See you in class!

Starting Monday October 5th, Starlight welcomes Michael Kielbasa and his new weekly West Coast Swing classes! WCS Basics+ @ 630pm Learn how to dance all of the basics in West Coast Swing in just a few weeks! This class is tailored for you. First timers and those with some experience who want to upgrade their skills, we will go through a variety of fundamental movements and patterns to help you feel comfortable and confident with your partner while dancing in any setting! (...Level: 0-3months) WCS Intermediate+ @ 7:30pm Do you want to look good and feel confident while dancing West Coast Swing? We will cover a variety of patterns, connection, styling and expand on your current knowledge in an engaging way! Get ready for a fun and interactive class! (Level: 2months of Basics+ or equivalent) Masks will be mandatory, as well as social distancing. Temperature will be taken before entering class. No pre-registration required; we'll get you signed in at the front desk!

Classes are returning to Starlight! Starting in October, we are offering a special schedule of classes! We are taking covid precautions very seriously and want to provide a safe environment for our community to start dancing again. Hello Everyone! We at Starlight want to thank you all for your interest in our reopening we’re excited to dance with you all again, too! We want to do our best to meet the expectations of all of our patrons and instructors, as well as the government’s guidelines. Most recently we have been approved to open our studio at 10% capacity. While things aren’t fully back to normal, we can start slowly and safely working towards being open again. ... Considering all the costs and safety concerns, we will not be offering group classes yet, but we have set up a program to allow for small numbers of people to meet for practice or private instruction. New Floor Rental Policies Hour long time slots will be available on Tuesdays between 5p-9p and on Saturdays between 1p-5p The floor will be marked off into 4 sections for four distinct groups. Up to four individuals can be in each section. The rental rate for each floor section is $15/hour If the same group wants to use their section for 2 or more hours, each hour will still be $15 (ie. 2 hours = $30, 3 = $45, etc.) Please bring your own music (ie. bluetooth speaker, laptop) and be mindful of your volume when sharing space. Reservations will be first come first serve and spaces will only be available to reserve 1 week in advance to make sure we stay as fair as possible to everyone. No exceptions to these times will be available unless directly discussed and decided upon with Larisa Tingle, the studio owner. Students who are interested can reach out to their instructors for their own personal policies and comfort levels with teaching at this time. If you are interested in practice space you can contact Larisa directly. This has been a year full of constant changes, as such we appreciate your continued patience. Hello dancers! Starlight is happy to start announce our soft reopening starting July 1. The studio will be available for private lessons at the discretion and comfort level of you and your instructor. Feel free to reach out to any of our instructors directly, or email/call/message Starlight Dance and we can help you get in contact with them. Please call, email, or message us to set up a time! Of course, safety is our first priority and we will do whatever we can to make it as safe as possible! The following precautions will put in place for all private lessons and general practice: - Masks must be worn inside the studio at all times. - However, we understand it might be physically uncomfortable to dance with a mask so if you choose to remove it while dancing in your private lesson, that is between you and your instructor, but we ask that you wear it when entering and exiting the studio and any time not actually dancing. - Your temperature will be taken at the front desk with a contact-less thermometer. - Hand sanitizer will be readily available at the front desk and around the studio. - Bathrooms, tables, and other surfaces will be wiped down throughout each day. - Social distancing must be followed as much as possible! Please discuss ahead of time with your instructor - if possible, bring a dance partner you are perhaps quarantined with so our instructors can safely coach you while social distancing. It is our goal to resume classes in August! We will be closely watching the covid cases in California and San Diego over the next month. As we get closer to August, If it is still not safe to start classes, we will re-evaluate and try again in September! Thank you for your patience through this confusing and scary time!
