At our virtual new season family gathering on Saturday evening, Miss Cormier, our character and ballet teacher, told us all about character dance and it’s place in the world of the full length classical ballet. Our students are so lucky to have @wendycormier75 @southerncaliforniaballet to pass on her knowledge of this important dance style to the next generation. Our students have the honour of being a link in the chain of ballet history!

Dancers are strong, resilient and above all they love what they do!! This Saturday is our annual New Season Family Gathering! And whilst it may be virtual this year, we have lots of fun things planned to bring everyone together, including an all studio game of Kahoot, an at home scavenger hunt and videos from @tano_tomato, @wendycormier75, our Artistic Director Toby and a ZOOM Q&A with this year’s seniors. Well done to everyone for a fabulous assessment weekend! All the dancers did amazingly and really stepped up! Thank you so much to our guest examiners @trystanmerrick and @corinagill for being on our panel! ... Every one of our students was assessed by a full panel of professional dancers in 2 days! Thanks to our amazing teachers @missnorikozaragoza @tano_tomato and @wendycormier75 for warming up your students and looking after them before they went in over the 2 days! Now we just have 240 score sheets to go through and organize and the first year of @southerncaliforniaballet new training program will come to a very successful close!

We are so happy that our senior company level dancer from 2019/20, Leah Zabezhinsky, is staying on at @southerncaliforniaballet to teach our young budding ballerinas. Welcome on board Leah! Day one of the new year! Dancers are back in the studio, finally!!! Woohoo! We do think we should give our new temp check/hand sanitizer stations a name... what do you think? We are taking suggestions. First place so far is Johnny 5 from short circuit but thinking that will probably not make sense to our younger generation? It’s sad (and annoying) that someone felt the urge to smash a window at the studios last week but as always we will keep going! Classes resume in person and virtually next week and we are super excited to get back to it! Stay safe everyone! See you next week!!! #scbstrong

New year registration is almost done and the classes are coming together. It looks like we are ready to roll when we come back after our summer closure on August 17 for in person and ZOOM virtual classes!! * Studios clearly marked for social distancing - Check * Hand sanitizer stations in every room - check * Signage - Check... * Disposable masks - check * Cleaning supplies - check (Hopefully that’s enough wipes to last a while) * Sneeze guard for front desk - Check * Non contact thermometer for temperature checks - check * Professional ZOOM setup - Check We are super excited to see everyone again and although it’s going to be different and we are all going to have to work hard to keep each other safe, we will at least be able to do what we love! 2019 memories.... Team SCB preparing for the first performance of 2019s The Nutcracker! Empathy is ingrained into the core of dance training without us even realizing!... Dance teaches so many things, one particularly important thing is empathy and respect for those around you. From the etiquette of the ballet studio to working as a team in rehearsals to feeling the support of your fellow dancers on stage, empathy is ingrained in the art of ballet and a dancer cannot survive long as a dancer without it. Even our lovely audience gets a big dose of empathy as they watch and connect with the performers on stage! The world needs as much empathy as we can give right now, so in other words.... keep dancing y’all!! Have a fantastic break and we will see you in 2 weeks!!!!! We are so extremely proud of how well our dancers have done through this pandemic so far and go into our 2 week summer break inspired by their commitment, perseverance and work ethic! It takes a lot of hard work to be a dancer and our students continue to shine even over ZOOM! We are posting this video from our 2020 gala to remind everyone what we can achieve and what we are looking forward to getting back to doing one day!
