Do Not Cover Your Toothbrush, Let It Air Dry. Think your toothbrush is clean? Our mouths contain bacteria, so keeping it covered or stored in a closed container might lead to problems. Let it air dry in a holder that allows it to stand up.

You should remember that digestion starts when you take in the first bite of your meal. Chewing breaks down food into pieces and then saliva helps in the process to create a form that the body can absorb. If you've been having digestion problems lately, you may want to check your oral health habits.

If your child loses a tooth during our temporary office closure, here are some scenarios where you should call our emergency line: 1. The tooth is knocked out or dislodged because of trauma. 2. The socket won't stop bleeding.... 3. An adult tooth is lost. (Save the tooth by placing it back in the socket or storing it in saliva or milk until we can see you.) 4. The child is experiencing tooth or jaw pain that can't be treated at home. Emergency calls will be assessed by our dentist and we'll guide you on the appropriate next steps. Hope everyone is being safe and staying healthy. Benjamin Chew, DDS

If you're not experiencing pain, then it's best to wait until our office reopens in a few weeks. If the root is exposed and you are experiencing tooth pain that doesn't go away with over-the-counter pain relievers then you should call our office at (510)745-9299 from 10am-12pm on weekdays. If you're experiencing a toothache, there are a few things you can try before calling our emergency line. 1. The most likely culprit of a toothache is a bit of food stuck between the teeth. Try flossing around the problem tooth. Remember to be gentle and not to force the floss between the teeth. 2. After flossing, rinse with warm salt water. If this makes it worse, try rinsing with cold water. Depending on the problem, cold water might feel better than warm water. ... 3. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever, as directed. Do not place aspirin directly on the gum or tooth. 4. Try rubbing an over-the-counter antiseptic containing benzocaine or clove oil onto the affected tooth and gum to numb the pain. 5. Place a cold compress on the outside of your cheek. If the pain is not managed by an over-the-counter pain reliever, give us a call at (510) 745-9299 from 10am- 12pm on weekdays and we'll discuss the next steps with you over the phone. Hope everyone is healthy and staying safe. Benjamin Chew, DDS
