Wait! Our experiences are normal & it’s the medical establishment that’s branding us sick & broken??? And we needed Yale to tell us this? Only teasing about the... Yale part. I’m glad an Ivy League school used their platform for good. Because we are normal regardless of whether we understand our experiences from a paranormal framework or not as they reference in the article!!! There are so many ways to make sense of Voices & other unusual phenomenon. One of the fundamental values of the hearing voices movement is that we make no assumption of illness. Thus freeing us up to discover who we truly are and what meaning and impact voices have on our life story. Check out the article! Aptly titled, "when researchers listen to people who hear voices". We all have different beliefs. But the underlying narrative for all of us is that we found a way to cope. We found a way to work with our experiences. Because of that, we were able to move away from what could have been a downward spiral. https://medicine.yale.edu//when-researchers-listen-to-peop

"The slow process of building trust. Last year, I toured skid row with what’s called a C3 outreach team. It consisted of nurses, mental health specialists, social workers and substance abuse counselors from city, county and community agencies. The goal was to establish relationships and gradually earn the trust of those who need medical or housing help but have resisted in the past for various reasons, often having to do with mental illness. The clients were led to housing options, with new opportunities to reclaim their lives and maybe even get jobs."
