Approximately every two minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the US. But, it’s not just women who are at risk, men can get breast cancer too. Octo...ber is breast cancer awareness month and you can expect to see some of our teams wearing their pink patches to show support for those who have had breast cancer or are going through treatment and to honor those who were taken too soon due to breast cancer. Regular breast cancer screenings is extremely important (ladies and gentlemen) as breast cancer patients rarely have symptoms and early detection can increase your survival rate. Check yourself often. For tips on how to do a self exam check out https://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/breast-self-exam

Wait until you see what our deputies found in this stolen car. Everyday there is inherent dangers being in law enforcement, especially right now. But, more ofte...n than not things go right and one of the tools that helps with that is the Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR). The ALPRs were introduced a few years ago and we have them in many of our cars and positioned throughout San Mateo County. The ALPRs not only help us identify stolen cars, they can also help locate missing people and track traffic conditions to help us determine if changes need to be made to increase safety. In this video you will see how Deputy David Brandt uses the ALPR system to catch people in a stolen car and how one crime often leads to another. This type of work is being done by our deputies every day and we will continue to show you the various tools and resources we use to keep you safe. Thanks for watching! On behalf of Sheriff Carlos G. Bolanos; "As you look out the window and witness the unique color of the sky, it might seem like another reminder of the unusual ...times we are facing. We all know someone whose life has been turned upside down after being affected by COVID-19, the fires, or the economic downturn. There are thousands of people here in our county who are suffering for lack of adequate food. We would like to thank the San Mateo County Deputy Sheriff's Association, San Mateo County Organization of Sheriff's Sergeants, and the command staff for spearheading this desperately needed food drive which allows us to support those who are not as fortunate as us. It's not every day when someone can say they saved another person's life. Sheriff Carlos G. Bolanos recognized two deputies for their life saving efforts during... a virtual awards ceremony. On November 25, 2019, Deputy Bernacil and Deputy Lennon heard a call come in of a shooting in the North Fair Oaks area. When they arrived, they saw an 18-year-old laying on the ground who had multiple gunshot wounds. Thanks to the fast actions of Deputy Lennon, who was a former medic, and Deputy Bernacil, they were able to get this young man stabilized before paramedics arrived and transported him to the hospital. Both the firefighters and the emergency room doctors who worked on this young man said that if these deputies did not react the way they did and as quickly as they did, this man would not have lived. Please join us in congratulating these gentlemen for their valiant efforts and being awarded to medal of Life Saving.
