Morning all We finally have a new Facebook page for the club. Interface with the Facebook admins has proven unsuccessful to get them to transfer admin rights to the current leadership. Sooooooo..... We have a new page (thanks to a new member - Greg) and this one will just let pass on naturally. ... Feel free to post interesting info, projects, tips/tricks, questions, etc. https://www.facebook.com/groups/288393162430481/?ref=share
In case you didn’t hear, there was a brush fire at the Apollo field yesterday. There was a lot of speculation that the cause was related to model aircraft. I’m happy to report I just got an email from the Valley Flyers that the fire was NOT caused by model aircraft. If you look carefully at the picture (upper right quadrant), you will see that while blackened, the runway and infrastructure survived.
Talk about timing. I just sat down at the computer and saw the good news from Ken. Good news! We have been told we no longer need to close the gate after entering. I you get there and the main gate is closed, open it and leave it open. It should be opened by 6:00 AM but if it is not then go ahead and open it.... Also, here is a link to the gallery on our website. I added some pictures from the Simi Valley Flyers runway resurface project. There is also a video the Ron Scott put together for us. Thanks to Ron and Buddy for the pictures. Thanks to Buddy Percin and Steve Lepler for helping get the pits cleaned up for the resurfacing of the picnic area. See you at the field, Ken
I want to personally thank the members who came out to support our CAF So. Cal. Wing museum. Thanks to you, a lot of the artifacts (model planes, boats, DVDs, and books) have found new homes and the museum gained much needed revenue. Again, many thanks. Rob.
Ladies and Gents - In cleaning out the Annex today at the Camarillo Air Museum, we stumbled across this great kit someone donated some years back in the hopes someone at the museum (hopefully one of the young Cadets) would build it and gain a little education about how an aircraft is constructed. The box is open but everything appears to be there. When finished, this is an absolutely gorgeous plane (and I have Bill Stullick's old one to prove it). I'm (OK - we're) asking $...250 for this kit and 100% of the sale of this goes to support the Camarillo Air Museum. This is not an ARF but a true builders dream build. 72 inch span and will require a 60 2-stroke or 90 4-stroke . With an little finessing, a a DLE 20 will fit.
A special request to all the Simi Flyer members. As everyone knows, the Covid-19 issue has taken a toll on everyone, including businesses. This includes the Commemorative Air Force Museum in Camarillo (which while non profit, is still technically a business). To cut costs, we are having to vacate our storage area where countless donations of historical archives are kept. Included in the archives are several Model Aircraft (built) that were donated to the museum. Some are in ...what I would consider near flyable condition, some will require a lot of "TLC" (in other words, a great restorers project). Unfortunately, we have no room for them in the new storage area which is why I'm trying to find them a new home. We also have a vast collection of completed (and I have to say, museum quality paint job) 1/72 and 1/48 scale planes that are up for grabs (for a reasonable donation of course). We do have recommended amounts but everything is negotiable as 100% is going directly to support the museum. If you are interested in any of these, please let me know. I am there on Tuesdays and Saturdays. If anything interests you, let me know via messenger (that way I'm sure to see it).
What a spectular sight this afternoon.
You probably got the Email from Ken stating our field is still closed so if you were thinking of heading to the basin, Sorry that's a no go From: Paola Monzon Sent: Friday, April 17, 2020, 3:40 PM To: Jason Mansfield... While the fight isn't over, here's a little humor to lighten things up (taken from one of the airplane sites I subscribe to from the FAA comment site)
Gents and ladies. My input to the FAA comment site is done. Today midnight EST is you last chance to provide comments to this ridiculous regulation that could essentially destroy our hobby.

I forgot to post this earlier. The 2020 Modelfest is at the Camarillo museum THIS SUNDAY. We (the museum) received a few RC helicopters and several Estes rockets + Estes motors (A thru E) for sale at the Modelfest. Good pricing and all $$ goes to the museum. Of course like last year, there will be many tables there selling plastic kits, some current models, some very rare. ... http://venturahobbies.com/modelfest.aspx
