It’s gonna be a HOT one this week! No water table at home? No worries! Stay safe, stay home, and use what you have! Kids can have fun with whatever you have in the home as long as you can be a little creative. Here is a random hodgepodge of objects that we used to keep him entertained for at LEAST an hour and a half. Those balloons aren’t even water balloons Water play can introduce a variety of new words: wet, splash, spill, slippery, swim, etc. have fun friends and don’t forget the sunblock

This is my 17 month old son working on his expressive language (in Korean)I am trying to get him to use 2-words and use them independently. Not ALL play times look like this even with a speech mom because, let’s be real, moms need a break now more than ever Let’s break down this video and talk about some strategies you can use with your little ones: 1No questioning: remember our 3:1 rule? 3 comments to every 1 question? Remember, questioning only allows for lim...ited language use. Commenting allows for increased language exposure and modeling. 2Waiting: Waiting is maybe THE most important skill we can have as parents. Often times we expect our little ones to talk as fast we do, but that’s rarely the case. Our little ones need time to think and process language. If we rush in to give them words before they have a chance to try on their own, it can lead to a decrease in expressive language. WAIT and give them a chance to answer. As a rule of thumb, I wait at least 20 seconds before judging if they need help. Notice also how long it takes him to put 2-words togetherif I were to jump in and help him too soon, he would never be able to practice that skill. 3Creating opportunities: notice how I am blocking him from closing or opening the doors on his own and then simply waiting for him to do something? This is creating an opportunity for him to use his languagewhether it be words or gestures. We started this activity by knocking on the doors and now we’ve moved on to words. Other ways you can create opportunities? You take control of puzzle pieces or the snack bag and make your child ask for each one. Place favored items high up so they have to ask for them. Again, this helps increase language skills and promotes spontaneous/independent language. Try these strategies at home with your little ones and message us for any questions! We’d love to see your videos too See more

Do you ever take a look around your child’s play area and realize that it is FILLED with toys that they seem to never play with? Well toy-cycling is a super easy way to make interest in toys last longer (and save you some money on buying new ones!) Toy-cycling is simple: cycle through your child’s toys so they don’t have all of them out at once. Pick some toys to have out and put all the other ones away. Toy-cycling or toy-rotation keeps toys feeling new, b...ut it also does so much more. With less toys available to play with, children are pushed to be more creative and imaginative. This helps with developing the skill of cognitive flexibility Also, less clutter=less overstimulation and more focus and attention. You can cycle through toys however often you like, but we like to do it once every 1-2 months. We also do this with our books too! See more

Happy Monday!it’s Monday right? Here’s another DIY activity that is easy and super fun for our little ones. What is it about surprises that we all love so much? Well, the good surprises, anyways. You will need: 1. Tissue box 2. Random items from around the house that fit inside the box 3. I also tied a paper towel around the opening and cut a hole through it so he couldn’t see into the box, but this is optional.... Remember: more commenting, less questioning! See more

Starting our week with some early morning speech therapy courtesy of a mama that is working from home When talking to your kids, stick with the 3 to 1 rule: 3 comments to every 1 question. This means that interactions with your kids should be mainly comments and NOT questions. As adults we tend to ask our little ones SO many questionswhat color is this? What is this? What animal is this? What sound does this make? This makes learning feel like a quiz and doesn’t allow... for language expansion. Instead of asking, what color is that car? Or what sound does a car make? Say blue car go! Beep beep car car go fast! Make your comments longer to match your child’s current language abilities and comment on EVERYTHINGFor this puzzle, instead of asking what sound does this make? Or where does this go? I said mooo, cow hi, farmer in, duck. Focus on commenting this week and notice how many more words your child picks up or how much longer their sentences get Hang in their mamas and dadas! We are getting through this together

Here are the toddler sounds to add to your child’s speech development. You’ll start to hear most of these sounds come in from the ages of 2-4. What are some words you can use to focus on these sounds? Fork, Puff, Found it! Go, Bug, Grass Kick, Cat, Back... Two, Top, Boat Weee, Ow, Wow Sing, Thing, Thank you Remember: the more they hear these sounds, the more likely they’ll be to produce them AND make sure your mouth is visible while you make these sounds for you little ones!
