We're super-excited to be hosting a two-part, on-line workshop this month focusing on two things near and dear to us: film and beer! The first one is "Kitchen Pot Alchemy: Beer-making for Filmmakers" taught by Shapeshifters Co-director and owner of Temescal Homebrewing Gilbert Guerrero, happening Saturday, 11/21. This will be followed by "Eco-Brew: Hand-Processing with Beer and Other Natural Materials" taught by Lisa Marr and Paolo Davanzo of Echo Park Film Center, happening the following Sunday, 11/29. TONIGHT! Sunday, 11/8 @7pm, Shapeshifters is excited to stream the 4th annual Aggregate Animated Shorts Awards Ceremony, organized by our sister organization Aggregate Space Gallery, based in West Oakland. Aggregate's Gallery Director Conrad Meyers will host this online award ceremony and screening which will include the top films from each of the festival's categories, as well as Viewer’s Choice awards that were rated by visitors via an online form during the two weeks that ...the full festival screened online. The awards ceremony will also include a film by each of the exhibition's jurors: Santiago Insignares, Carey Lin, and Fu Yang. Artists from the August on-line festival: Amber Crabbe, Kristine Diekman, Celia Eid & Sébastien Béranger, Richard Haley, Jiayang Huang, SHON KIM, Seren Moran, Ben Mosca, Maxine Schoefer-Wulf, Cassie Shao, Leon Simone, Melinda K.P. Screening tonight, 10/25 @ 7pm: In Decline, by Wayne Grim and Phoebe Tooke is an investigation of space and the physical nature of abandonment. The performance will move through three distinct movements: wreckage, estates, and steady states. Just announced: Nontoxic Cameraless Filmmaking: Phytograms and Other Interventions with Greta Snider, Sunday, 10/25, 1-4pm. In this on-line workshop led by filmmaker and educator Greta Snider, we will experiment with plants and other materials printed directly onto film, in a relatively uncomplicated, daylight process using nontoxic developer and fixer, 35mm film and re-usable gloves.
