Santa Clara Law's International Human Rights Clinic is proud to be one of over 360 civil society groups and 143 families of victims of police violence that called on the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to ensure effective implementation of a recent UN Human Rights Council resolution on police violence and structural racism. The letter calls on the High Commissioner to examine individual cases of extrajudicial killings of people of African descent and impunity for polic...e violence including but not limited to the murder of George Floyd. The letter also calls on the High Commissioner to examine the history of racist policing in the United States and in other countries and make recommendations for robust accountability measures and mechanisms towards ending police violence and dismantling structural racism. Finally, the letter calls to allocate sufficient resources, including financial resources, towards this effort and hold virtual public hearings on police violence and use of excessive force against protesters and journalists in the wake of #BlackLivesMatter protests. We thank the ACLU and the US Human Rights Network for their leadership in this campaign. https://aclu.org//letter-high-commission-human-rights-reso

International Human Rights Clinic students continue their work on cases during pandemic
Violence Against Women is the world’s most widespread human rights violation. It is also a public health emergency and an economic crisis. Yet, there is no specific global treaty to address violence against women. For the past 6 years, the International Human Rights Clinic has been working with Every Woman, an organization seeking global support for an international treaty on violence against women. Today, Every Woman launched the Safer Sooner report, which makes the case for... such a treaty. As one of the contributors to this report, we strongly believe that we need to make this happen. Can we count on your support? Please share! Join us: https://everywoman.org/safer-sooner
