Yesterday we announced a goal to raise $50,000 before the new year. We’ve seen tremendous support so far, but we still have a way to go. Our caregivers have given so much of themselves this year to keep our community safe, save lives and send patients home to their loved ones. A gift today is a great way to let them know how much you appreciate their dedication, and it will also help them pursue health care advancements that will bring the next generation of medicine to our patients. "Today, we have 1,563 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in the county. Scripps Health now has more COVID-19 patients in our hospitals than there were in all of San Diego County hospitals combined back in July: 413 and rising. Right now, out of 173 ICU beds at Scripps, we have seven staffed beds available and more than three times that number of patients waiting for beds in our emergency departments. We are nearing the point where we have to make the decision of who gets care and who does not. Please help us help you. Stay at home this New Year’s. Stay in your safety bubble. We are pleading for your help and support." - Chris Van Gorder, Scripps Health President and CEO Read the full op-ed.
Our mission to heal, enhance and save lives has taken on new meaning amidst the pandemic. We’re so grateful for our San Diego community members, who have helped our staff every step of the way. This support remains essential as we look ahead to the new year, which is why we’ve set a final 2020 goal to raise $50,000 before the year comes to an end. Please consider supporting Scripps with a gift today. Every dollar will help our caregivers continue to deliver the excellent care you know and trust. Wrap up this holiday season with a gift to Scripps.

This year, it's safest to stay home and celebrate the holidays with the people who live with you. But if you are going to gather or travel, assume everyone in your gathering has been exposed to COVID-19 and take every precaution. Keep it small, and don’t eat or drink. The fewer people, the better. Eating and drinking is when masks start to come off and that’s a cause of many COVID outbreaks. Wear masks everyone, always. Make sure everyone stays at least six feet ...away from others the entire time. Visiting outdoors is best. Sanitize your surfaces, doorknobs, bathrooms, countertops, etc. And make hand sanitizer easily available to all. Travel is not recommended at all. But driving is considered safer than flying, especially when airports are full. If you fly, deck yourself out in a holiday mask and keep it on the entire time, and stay as far away from others as possible. If you do travel, please remember to self-quarantine for 10-14 days afterward. Work from home if you can. Testing before and after gatherings or travel can give you a false sense of security. COVID testing is dependent on when you were exposed and the level of virus currently in your system, so a single negative test does not mean you don’t have COVID-19. Testing is also very limited right now due to the surge, so not worth a test if you don’t have COVID symptoms. Learn more: www.scripps.org/covid19f
It's especially important that those who have diabetes stay safe from COVID-19. Diabetes weakens the immune system and with that comes an increased likelihood of hospitalization and even death from COVID. Listen to our latest podcast to learn more about diabetes and COVID.
