The pool at NPHS is closed, forcing students on the water polo, swim and dive teams to jump on a bus everyday and leave NP because this community doesn't have a pool anymore. The only publication informing the community about the closure is the student newspaper. Thank you Panther Prowler! "Keith Brock, swim coach, was not informed of pool reconstruction prior to this fall. 'I was surprised that, to the best of my knowledge, nobody that works in the whole aquatics area P.E.... teachers, water polo coaches, swim coaches, the pool man was consulted on this project.' Here is a letter printed in this week’s TO Acorn for us to share. https://www.toacorn.com//church-going-in-despite-demand-t/ ... Church going in despite demand to keep pool January 18, 2018 As most of you know, the Miller Family YMCA was recently sold to an organization personally brought in by Councilmember Rob McCoy. The name of this organization is Heavenly Father’s Foundation, and they directly fund groups that are labeled as extreme anti-LGBT groups by the Southern Poverty Law Center. According to tax records and news articles, HFF has funded McCoy’s church. In fact, McCoy’s church is the only entity west of the Rockies to receive funding from HFF. Is McCoy doing our community a service by bringing in an organization like Heavenly Father’s Foundation all the way from Texas? Ignoring the overwhelming demand from the community to keep the gym/pool, McCoy plans to put his church in the Miller YMCA building. He had previously offered to back out of the deal if another buyer was found but now seems to have changed his mind even with a new buyer found and waiting. Ask yourselves: Is this the type of person we want as our mayor next year? Considering their recent efforts to circumvent Measure E and ignore the desire of the people, McCoy and three other council members have shown their unwillingness to follow the will of their constituents and instead make their own rules. As most of you also know, there are steps we can take to remove local officials from office. I call on McCoy and all others that serve the people of this city to wake up and listen to our voices before it’s too late. David Oh Newbury Park
In case you didn't see this post....
Hello everyone! I apologize for not posting any recent updates. As you all know the timing of this situation with the Christmas and New Year holidays has been incredibly inconvenient. Many different agencies/councils/committees on the county and state level were unavailable in addition to the closure of the Thousand Oaks City Hall during the week between Christmas and New Year's. ** I would like to add that the first two scheduled meetings for the City Planning Commission hav...e conveniently been cancelled. The first 2018 meeting will be on Feb 5th. City Council will meet as scheduled on Jan 9th.** Regardless, I want to assure all of you that even though I can't elaborate just yet, this is *far from over!!* I hope to share more information later this week. Also, I have added another community member as an administrator of this page to help with providing timely updates In the meantime, please keep sending letters to the Acorn, Ventura County Star, and all other available media outlets. This past week there were several excellent letters in both the Acorn and Star. If I haven't already, I will post links shortly. Stay tuned! Stay positive! And Happy New Year
IMPORTANT UPDATE Paperwork to request a preliminary injunction to reverse the sale of the Miller YMCA is currently underway and will be filed at the beginning of next week. This appears to be an illegal sale. Potential class action lawsuit to follow.
I wouldn't say goodbye just yet... Stay tuned, more details coming this afternoon
