A little moment of zen from the garden. Be sure to watch this with sound on to hear the soothing sounds of the running water, rustling leaves and happy birds in the garden after the rainfall. . . #syvbotanicgarden #gardensounds #asmr #communitygarden

Winter has arrived in the garden as we welcome our first significant rainfall since last spring. Over 1.5 so far in the last 24 hours and it continues intermittently. The improvements in the garden have helped protect the pathways and young plants from overflow watershed and they all soak in the rain helping establish strong roots for great new growth in the spring! . . #syvbotanicgarden #winterrain #communitygarden #californianativeplants

Celebrate the birthday of one of founders of the SYV Botanic Garden by giving back to the garden that gives so much to all of us! Nature is a friend for all of us, thank you to Puck for helping found the garden and her continuing dedication for growing this amazing community space to enjoy nature and explore! For her birthday as a goal she would love to increase our membership for 2021 or donate to the garden for our coming year! Happy Birthday Puck!

The volunteers at the garden today got a perfect viewing of the rocket launch from @vandenberg_afb set against a perfectly clear blue sky rising above the fall colors of the sycamores and cottonwood in the garden! . . #syvbotanicgarden #santaynezvalley #toinfinityandbeyond

Are the children and grand children climbing the walls? Take them outside for a treasure hunt. Leaves are out there in abundance. Create art for your young ones to wrap and place under the Christmas tree. Ideas provided by ‘Ideas and Fun’

Pollinator paradise! The bees are busy loving these fuchsia blooms in the garden. Nature really seems to appreciate the transformation from a former barren road waste dump site to this native habitat garden it is today. We were pleasantly surprised to see beautiful fall blooms on the Flannel Bush (Fremontodendron californicum). Typically blooms once a season and gave us a beautiful flush in spring and now giving us a second show in fall to our amazement and the pollinators enjoyment. Our native plants truly are spectacular!! . . #syvbotanicgarden #californianativeplants #communitygarden #santaynezvalley

It's hard to imagine ’Fall’ when walking under the hot sun at the SYV botanic garden. A place where native bloom can be found everywhere you look.

Tomorrow, the first section of the rain garden will be completed and all of the volunteers involved in the project will take a much deserved weekend off. The creek is already being explored and enjoyed by curious ‘Wild Life’ such as quail, flycatchers, phoebe birds, lizards, bees, moths and butterflies. Success! Luna, one of our many garden dogs, cooled her paws in the storm drain after a long day of digging in the heat. She’s been busy keeping track of the crew. ... When running full during winter rain, overflow from the storm drain will make its way through the gardens newest educational addition, the Rain Garden. You can read and learn more about the specific section of the SYV Botanic Garden when paying it a visit. The educational sign can be found along the main pathway, overlooking the dry creek. Thank you SYS Stone and Topsoil for your continued support of the community garden.

The SYV Botanic Gardens much anticipated ‘Rain Garden’, sponsored by SYS Stone and Topsoil, is nearing its completion, two years ahead of schedule. Landscape crews and volunteers showed up in large numbers, donating their time. A true testament to the community taking ownership of their community garden. In one day, they managed to complete the first of three stages, installing a creek bed including man made retention ponds (depressions), prior to winter rains. When the ...adjacent storm drain overflows, water will sheet flow through the willow maze, ending up at the newly installed creek bed, deep watering willow, trees and plants along the way. The creek bed is representative of the valleys watershed, displaying local boulders, rock and native plants growing along the riverbanks of Santa Ynez River. We expect the educational creek to be completed by the end of the week. Stop by and take a look, brainstorming ideas how you and your drought tolerant native flora can best take advantage of rainfall on your property, small or large. We invite you to post photos of rain gardens from near and far. See more
