We are sad to report that there was a fire in the Tecopa marshes. All community members and structures are safe. However, it burned 27 acres of marsh, including... vole habitat. All south of Tecopa Hot Springs Rd and just south of the TNC peninsula. The vole team is pulling together a rapid response effort to be in the field ASAP to better understand the effect this has on our favorite furry friend. On the bright side, it will be an interesting opportunity to learn about bulrush marsh recovery and vole re-population after fire.

The ringtail (Bassariscus astutus), a member of the raccoon family, is a secretive nocturnal native to arid regions of North America. This pair decided to use my swamp cooler as their own private jungle gym. A rare glimpse at a truly fascinating species. Enjoy
