Matthew is one of four accounts of the life, death, and resurrection of the Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth. These first four books of the NT are called the Gospels, meaning good news. Author: Matthew, also known as Levi (Mark 2:14), a tax collector (9:9) who became an apostle (20:3). Matthew presents Jesus as King.... Unique Features: Only Gospel containing the word church Sermon on the Mount Parables of the Kingdom The seven woes on scribes and Pharisees The Olivet discourse on the end times Matthew is the most systematic Gospel, grouping together similar things such as discourses, parables, and miracles. Matthew emphasizes final rewards and punishments. The words judgment, hell, Fire, hypocrite, or woe are found on almost every page.
