Meet Christina Nokes!! Christina is 35 years old and was born and raised in Foresthill, CA. She fell in love with running her junior year of high school, and got back into it in 2018 (thanks to Melissa Penwell and Arete)! Her favorite race is the Monterey Bay half marathon. Not only was this race where she broke 1:30, but the scenery was so beautiful that she *almost* forgot she was racing! One particularly funny race moment was when she got excited about seeing a whale dur...ing the race, only for a competitor next to her to break the news that it was a rock! Christina’s favorite distance to race is a toss-up between the 5k and half marathon. They are both such different races, but she enjoys them because she just loves to push her limits! Her favorite workouts are long runs with large groups of friends. Christina is a 6th grade teacher, and in her spare time she enjoys crafting, music, and, during December, watching Hallmark Christmas movies. Christina looks forward to continuing to develop her love for running and chasing down her goals in 2021! #FridayFeature #runSRA See more

Day 10 of 12 Days of SRA is for our Team SRA volunteers! Each year, SRA relies on the essential service of over 7,500 volunteers across all their events. CIM race weekend alone recruits 4,500 volunteers over 3 days. Many volunteers and service groups have been a part of Team SRA for years. The volunteer program provides youth sport teams, clubs, community groups, and local organizations with dynamic service and fundraising opportunities. Our events would not be possible without the tremendous support of everyone that makes up Team SRA!! #runSRA #12DaysOfSRA

Today’s #TrainingTipTuesday is going through the Thomas Test to assess hip flexor mobility! Hip flexors include the iliopsoas muscle group, the rectus femoris, and many other muscles that could cause underlying conditions if range of motion is impaired. To perform this test, the patient should be supine on the examination table, maximally flex both knees, using both arms to ensure that the lumbar spine is flexed and flat on the table and avoids a posterior tilt of the pelvis.... The patient then lowers the tested limb toward the table, whilst the contralateral hip and knee is still held in maximal flexion to stabilize the pelvis and flatten out the lumbar. The length of the iliopsoas is measured by the angle of the hip flexion. The test is positive if you are unable to maintain your lower back and sacrum against the table, your hip has a large posterior tilt or hip extension greater than 15, or if your knee is unable to meet more than 80 flexion. If you test positive, make sure you check back next week when we share exercises you can do to increase hip flexor mobility! Even if you test negative, these exercises can keep you running healthy and are always good to incorporate into your prehab routine. #runSRA #TuesdayTips #TrainingTips #Mobility

Meet Adam Rix! Adam is a proud Midtown Sacramento resident who has been running and racing for fun in the Sacramento area for 12 years. His favorite race is the Shamrock'n Half Marathon along with the California International Marathon, Urban Cow Half Marathon and, most recently the SacFit American River Parkway Half. He gets most of his training miles in by jogging to work on the American River Parkway or to a pre-planned stop on the Sacramento Light Rail. On hot days he lov...es making a quick pit stop to hop in the river to cool off before finishing his run. Adam’s favorite post race food is a big stack of pancakes followed by a nap! He is most inspired by runners who are starting out on their fitness journey, as finding the courage to start and stick with it can be the hardest part. Adam’s message for you all right now: Keep going!! #FridayFeature #runSRA See more

It’s Friday which means it’s time to introduce another friendly face within our running community! This week’s #FridayFeature is Chris Goode. Chris started running in 2009 when he was a freshman at Jesuit High School. Though the sport began as a love-hate relationship, he quickly caught the bug and running became his passion. Since then, Chris has explored running through many different forms of participation, and has enjoyed them all. He ran a little in college at Sac State,... spent around 5 years coaching cross country and track at Bella Vista High School, and he served as a meet director for the Parochial Athletic League. Now his main focus is coaching individuals through his service Goode Athletics. 10+ years later, Chris still loves running on the beautiful trails that the American River has to offer. Chris reflects, Of all the amazing things running has brought into my life, I think what I’m most grateful for is all the wonderful people I’ve been able to meet along the way. This includes my coaches, teammates, best friends and even my girlfriend Melissa, whom I met while I was on a run with my college team. I’m also so thankful that we have organizations like SRA to help share this sport with others. Make sure to give Chris a wave if you see him out on the trails! Are you a local Sacramento runner? Meet Kristin Jerome! Kristin is 29 years old and has lived in Sacramento her whole life! She started running 4 years ago to shed a few pounds, but instead fell in love with the sport, as many of us do, and found a true passion. Her focus has been training for her first full marathon which will be California International Marathon. Her favorite place to run is anywhere along the American River She doesn’t usually listen to music when she runs, but does when she races! Her fav...orite distance to race is the half marathon because it’s challenging, but long enough to give you some grace if you need it. When she’s not running, Kristin spends her time either working or with her two toy poodles. She owns an online retails business called Foxy Roxy Co., which allows her to have more freedom when planning her training around work. We will look out for you on the parkway Kristin! #FridayFeature #runSRA Are you a local Sacramento runner? DM us for a chance to be featured!

Meet Justin Rubio! Born and raised in nearby Stockton, Justin has called Sacramento his home for nearly all of his adult life. Following a hiatus from fitness after graduating from Sac State, Justin returned to an active lifestyle in his 30s. Inspired by one of his best friends, he committed to a number of Spartan Races, earning a Double Trifecta medal in the process. He then had a short stint as a triathlete and a group HIIT trainer, but since then Justin has settled into ru...nning as his primary physical activity. After feeling the drag of solo miles, he linked up with 9run6 in 2017 and instantly felt welcomed by the group's positive attitude, overwhelming support, and mutual love/hate relationship with early morning runs. Years after his first 5:30am jaunt with the team, he was chosen to become one of 9run6's leaders. Between spending time with his daughters, visiting local breweries, and hoping that the Sacramento Kings will eventually reach the playoffs again, Justin can be found running around the city or the surrounding trails and giving his 9run6 teammates the same level of support and companionship that encouraged him to become part of Sacramento's running community in the first place. Thanks for leading such a great group within our running community Justin! #FridayFeature #runSRA See more

Congratulations to 2017 CIM/U.S. Marathon Champion Sara Hall on her runner-up finish at this past weekend’s London Marathon. Sara finished in a personal best time of 2:22:01, which makes her the 6th fastest U.S. woman all-time. Sara has been well-known in the Northern California running scene since her years competing for Montgomery High School, through her time on Stanford University’s cross-country and track teams, and continuing on as a professional runner for ASICS. Happy #TrainingTipTuesday! Today is a great strength exercise to activate your core, glutes, and hamstrings. Reverse lunges put less stress on your joints, and the knee drive will help with power and stability. You can also hold a weight to make it more challenging. Give it a try after your run and tag us to let us know what you think! #trainingtips #tuesdaytips #runSRA

Meet Sarah Correa! Sarah was born and raised in Niskayuna, New York, and has been living in the Sacramento area since 2014. Sarah has been running for five years, and her first and favorite races were Shamrockn and Urban Cow. In 2016 she ran the Way Too Cool 50k which propelled her into the world of ultra. This year, Sarah won her first 50-miler on Catalina Island, set the course record at the Salmon Falls 50k, and won her second 50-miler at Mt. Shasta. Her dream race that sh...e is working toward is Western States. Sarah loves the physical and mental challenge of running, the places running has taken her, and the happiness it brings her. Sarah recently celebrated one year of sobriety and wants to tell everyone struggling right now - whether it be substance abuse, depression, or just the uncertainties of the COVID reality we are living in - to get up, go outside, and find a trail. "You don't have to run, you just have to move, and I guarantee it will help!" Thank you for sharing your story Sarah! #FridayFeature #runSRA Are you a local Sacramento runner?
