Let's talk about botox! Cosmetic botulinum toxin therapy, aka neurotoxin injectables, work to help diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by paralyzing the muscles underneath. While Botox is the most well known of them all, other neurotoxin brand names include Dysport, Xeomin, and the newly FDA-approved Jeuveau. So, what's the difference? Botox: The OG of neurotoxins, good for treating all areas. Takes about 2 weeks for it to onset and activate.... Dysport: Great for last minute treatments as it onsets in 24-48hrs. It's ideal for treating larger areas because of diffusion. Dysport diffuses more than BOTOX, Jeuveau, and Xeomin due to the structure of its protein. Xeomin: It's referred to as a naked injectable, meaning that it does not contain any additives. Xeomin is often used on patients who are no longer responding to Botox or Dysport. Jeuveau: New kid on the block, a.k.a. Newtox marketed towards millennials because of its lower price point it's most commonly used for baby tox and preventative care.
