Chronic stress suppresses your immune system making the body more vulnerable to disease. This is why it is so important to learn relaxation techniques that deactivate the stress response and activate the relaxation response. Reflexology is a quick and effective way to get the body out of stress and into deep relaxation, giving the body a chance to heal. It activates the parasympathetic system (relaxation response), giving your body an opportunity to rest and repair. The stress response is designed for short moments of danger. Now a days we are constantly stressed, our minds are racing a mile a minute, and our mind/body thinks we are in constant danger. Let's do everything we can to reduce stress in our lives. What do YOU do to reduce your stress? Would love to hear you in the comments below!

"No, the biggest predictor of your happiness and fulfillment overall in life is, basically, love. ...Specifically, the study demonstrates that having someone to rely on helps your nervous system relax, helps your brain stay healthier for longer, and reduces both emotional as well as physical pain. ...It's the quality of the relationships (that matter)how much vulnerability and depth exists within them; how safe you feel sharing with one another; the extent to which you can relax and be seen for who you truly are, and truly see another."

This connection between gut bacteria and the brain is fascinating! It's awesome that prebiotics and probiotics may be able to treat anxiety and depression! And maybe even reduce autism symptoms! Wow.

Reflexology does EXACTLY that -- downregulate the sympathetic nervous system!! It's the easiest and most effective way I've found to downregulate the stress response. If more people knew of reflexology (and saw Certified Reflexologists) there would be much less stress in the world!

I posted this a year ago, but I still like it and feel that it rings true! :) ___ Here's Kaypacha's astrological report for this week! "It's a time to heal ourselves, to heal our lives, to heal our relationships."... True healing requires taking a look at and owning our shadow side and feeling our feelings in order to process them, grow and transform. "Blocked emotions are the source of all disease." We do lots of things to avoid feeling difficult feelings. We live busy, over-scheduled, fast-paced lives that give us no time for contemplation and emotional processing. And we seek out emotional highs or numb ourselves with over-eating, sugar and alcohol. "Feelings want to be felt." Today I'm giving myself some time to think. What am I feeling? Are there any feelings I'm suppressing or trying to avoid? What am I projecting onto others? What buttons of mine have been pushed lately? When something pushes my buttons, it's an invitation to look at myself, own it, and heal it. "It's a sign of strength and courage to be able to change." Kaypacha's mantra for this week: "I need to own my part, in order to open my heart. Feeling my fears and releasing my tears will prepare me for a brand new start." Love to all! -Johanna Thaxter Certified Reflexologist
