*** COINS FOR COPS *** To our great surprise, last night we were visited by the founder of #coinsforcops (who brought us a very sweet gift). A hand written thank you note and a challenge coin for each of our uniformed and non-uniformed personnel. Coins For Cops is an organization whose mission is to thank law enforcement officers around the nation for their service and provide a small token of appreciation so we have something to remind us that not everyone is against us. ... Thank you for this thoughtful gift, we truly appreciate it!!! If you'd like to donate and help them thank even more officers, check out their website: https://www.coinsforcops.net/ - AM San Mateo County Sheriff's Office CHP - Golden Gate Division CHP - San Jose CHP - San Francisco Redwood City Police Department

If you live on Skyline Blvd or were trying to drive on Skyline Boulevard yesterday you were probably turned around, and while you probably didn’t understand why at the time (and some drivers were upset as they were told they could not drive any further) here’s a short clip of what emergency crews were tackling behind the orange cones. Always be aware of your surroundings but specially on windy or rainy days as debris might be flying around and sometimes some of the more unexp...ected debris such as tarps or even patio umbrellas may end up on the freeways. If driving on the mountains, remember large tree branches could break and land on the roadway as well as entire trees. If you don’t need to go out on windy days, you’re probably going to be safer at home. -AM

This little guy didn't look very happy when he got "arrested" earlier today after he got loose and was roaming around SR-84. He could've gotten hit by a passing vehicle. Little did he know he was about to be reunited with his family thanks to a collar with his phone number on it. Thank you Officer Lu for giving our furry friend a ride home. -AM

Be thankful this is not a "Scratch 'n Sniff" post. As our graveyard shift began, we were notified by one of the contractors that there was a crash on US-101 northbound, south of Holly Street and that there were chicken guts all over the roadway. Mind you, it was very warm today...need we say more??? Suddenly nobody minds wearing their face masks LOL Hopefully you didn't get stuck in this traffic but if you did, thank you for your patience. Caltrans HQ District 4 is on their way to clean it up. -AM

Expect delays northbound I-280 from Foothill Expy to Magdalena Ave. Big rig overturned north of Magdalena blocking the two right lanes. Lanes expected to be closed for at least two more hours. Avoid the area if possible.

*** NOT ALL IS LOST YET *** Earlier this evening, one of our units went to Fremont to do some follow-up on a crash that occurred in our area. He was focused on locating the address of one of the parties he wanted to talk to when he suddenly noticed a couple kids waving at him from the sidwwalk. He stopped to say hi and realized he only had a couple stickers left so he told them not to tell anyone. ... After contacting the party he was looking for he was surprised to see a dozen neighborhood kids around his patrol car. (Only half of them were willing to take a picture with him.) He started talking with them as he frantically looked for more stickers. Luckily he found some in the bottom of his bag. Kids were happy and he was relieved It's great to see kids still look up to law enforcement. We'll keep doing our best to maintain their trust! -AM

WE ENFORCE SPEEDS TO PREVENT INCIDENTS LIKE THESE!!! The pictures of the crash you see below are from one that took place last night on SR-92 near Alameda De Las Pulgas in San Mateo. We couldn't tell the make and model of the vehicle as we arrived. Miraculously, the driver and passenger survived although not without suffering major injuries.... The citation is from this morning on SR-237. A vehicle traveling 114MPH on a 55MPH zone. That's right, did you know that on SR-237 (in both directions) between East of El Camino Real and Mathilda and on SR-92 (also in both directions) between I-280 and Foster City Boulevard, both have a Maximum Speed Limit of 55MPH? Slow down and avoid becoming a statistic! -AM

Christmas is around the corner and will be here before you know it. Due to social distancing and other safety measures, a toy drive we're participating in this year will be held in a parking lot and the Redwood City CHP is looking for donations of large Christmas decorations we can use outdoors. If you have anything you'd like to donate such as Christmas trees, Christmas lights, inflatables, reindeer, etc, we'd love to use it for this event in December. Feel free to email... Officer Art Montiel at [email protected] and we can swing by and pick it up if you're within an hour drive from Redwood City. Thank you in advance!

If you happened to be traveling on NB US-101 near Whipple Avenue early this morning, you may have noticed lots of debris blocking the three right lanes before and after Whipple Avenue. It appears a vehicle lost their load of IKEA furniture still in the boxes and several vehicles failed to avoid the hazard and hit those boxes until they were in pieces. As our officers arrived to the call of wood debris blocking the roadway, a group of construction workers currently working... on the "Express Lane Expansion" project left their post and within minutes showed up at the scene to help us remove the large wooden pieces and clear the roadway of metal connectors and screws that had covered all three lanes. Thanks to their quick response, we were able to clear the road and minimized the effect on traffic congestion.

As we leave Summer behind and move into Fall, here's a tip for motorcycle riders to keep in mind. This rider is a retired paramedic who still loves to ride despite everything he's seen during his career. Based on his experience responding to motorcycle crashes and in case he's ever involved in a crash and ends up unconscious, he opted for putting some pertinent information on his helmet for first responders to see as they arrive on-scene. Think about what you'd like paramedi...cs and first responders to know about your overall health as we arrive and put that on your helmet. Have a Safe Ride! -AM

Interesting weekend to say the least but what really threw us for a loop was a pursuit our officers were involved in. It all started on US-101northbound south of Marsh Road where a black Kia was traveling in excess of 85MPH. When our officers attempted to stop the Kia, the driver accelerated to 115 MPH. The Kia then took the US-101 connector to SR-92 at a high rate of speed and sideswiped the left concrete wall. ... The Kia then continued eastbound on the bridge nearly colliding with a car traveling in the #3 lane. By that point the driver had reached speeds of up to 130 MPH. The Kia then went northbound on I-880 and then onto I-238. Additional units from Hayward and Castro Valley CHP were able to assist. The Kia then took I-580 westbound at approximately 50 MPH threw two black "guns" from the left side. The driver then lost control of the Kia and collided with the left concrete wall. The impact disabled the Kia. To our surprise, the occupants of the Kia were a group of 15 and 16 year olds...and the "guns" you ask? They were pellet guns. Had they pointed those to the officers, this pursuit would've ended up very differently. Thankfully all juveniles were returned to their legal guardians who got an early wake up call to drive from San Jose to pick up their kids at the Redwood City Area office.

The Special Olympics Northern California had to cancel the #LawEnforcementTorchRun this past June. The CHP Redwood City Area office normally runs a small portion along other allied agencies carrying the torch on El Camino Real from just north of Atherton to Sequoia Station in Redwood City, California. Since the run was canceled in June, we're attempting it again on November 6th as we fund raise for the Special Olympics. If you'd like to support us, come cheer us on El Camin...o Real on November 6th some time around 9:15am to 9:30am or you can donate $1 (yes, one dollar) on our page below: https://specialolympics.donordrive.com/participant/23645 See you there! - AM

It warms our hearts to see the outpour of support from our local residents during these trying times. Law enforcement is going through some tough times but be sure that we'll continue to be there when you call and will continue to be professional. Special thanks to Skywood Trading Post in Woodside for allowing us to set up our booth in their parking lot for the past couple weekends and provide vital safety information to riders.... And to Alice's restaurant for taking such great care of our officers on their 12 - 16 hour fixed posts during the fires. Enjoy the rest of the weekend! -AM
