After a 150+ hand hours invested over two weeks (a million thanks to all the saints who laid their hands on this!!!) Welcome to the Rainbow Vortex is now up presiding over her perch @terragallerysf and indeed ready to welcome visitors to the Local Love Spring Art Festival. Tickets to tonight’s opening are already sold out but the exhibition will be open every day through Sunday May 16th. Welcome to the Rainbow Vortex tests my ideas about modern stained-glass and how one m...ight invite spiritual delight in a secular setting. It is absolutely an invitation to hope as many have noted. It spans 18’ x 17’ of windows with circular sacred geometry and patterned colors cut to allow vistas of the densest part of San Francisco to animate the piece. Like so many of my translucent and reflective works, this piece will transform throughout the day. So far, I have basked in the golden hour sunstreaks between 4-6pm as they shadow dance across the floor of the gallery. Sounds like there will be a performance in front of my piece each Fri + Sat around 7p. Personally, I’m excited to see how the gold and silver parts will invert from silhouettes to become more like jewelry tonight as the sun sets and the interior lights reverse the experience. I love it when a 2D static artwork vibrates and comes alive as it fuses with its environment. It has made me downright giddy to feel the energy of 30 artists installing their works in this beautiful space over the last week. It feels like a springtime cotillion with all of us invited to come out of our hibernation and celebrate that which speaks to the spirit in its wordless language. The work of my fellow artists is truly inspired and speaks to the strong curatorial flex of @JustinYoungart of @musepop.ioMany kudos to the herculean effort he has single-handedly exerted to bring this exhibition together on behalf of us artists. Studio Raylene Gorum is CRANKING for the next two weeks on this temporary installation debuting as a part of a group exhibition of big art from 30 artists in a gorgeous event space in downtown SF. "Welcome to the Rainbow Vortex" will cover 240 sf of windows in what I call 'modern stained glass' (though I will be using vinyl for this). It is a meditation on the dawning of hope as we emerge from such trying times. The event is being held in order to give artists like myself ...an opportunity to share their big art with the public - and possibly give them some monies for it too.
