I will upload today's bibles study tonight. Today's topic: Defending the weak. Defending the weak Psalm 82:1-5 1. Can you name group of people who are considered weak?... 2. Definition of the weak a. Dictionary: lacking strength/ mentally or intellectually deficient/ not factually grounded or logically presented/ not able to function properly b. Biblical definition: weak in strength/ unable to stand the pressure/ easily broken/ easily subdued/ low or small/ c. Biblically, according to Paul, weak shall inherit the earth. Weak will be strong through God i. Greek: Astheneo () to be ill, without strength, to languish ii. Hebrews: Weak, feeble 3. Psychology of weak a. People generally want to feel strong by allowing their strength shine brighter than their weakness. People view that if you have enough strengths, then it can cover the weak parts of you. b. To be truly strong, one must admit that they have weakness. Mentally weak doesn’t mean that you are a bad person. Just because you can’t resist chocolate doesn’t mean that you are fat slob. It means that you are to learn to resist or strengthen the part that you are weak. c. If we continue to kneel before your weakness, you will never be able to increase your mental strength and bring health to your life. You will be continuing to over compensate your strength to cover your weakness. 4. Who are truly weak? a. The society will often times points to physically weak or ill as weak in the society i. Physically handicapped ii. Mentally handicapped iii. Children or child iv. Elderly b. The bible define the weak is little bit different from the world i. Weak in spirit ii. Weak in heart iii. Weak in faith iv. Human nature is weak due to sin v. Everyone is considered weak by God because they have sin in their lives c. You have to understand that weak are the ones who needs rescue, by that definition, who doesn’t need rescue? 5. How do we defend the weak? a. Admit that we have limits on how much we can help others b. Admit that God is the only one who can truly strengthen us (1Cor.1:27, 2Cor 12:9) c. We have to allow the power of God to make us strong (2 Cor. 12:10) d. We also must defend who cannot defend for themselves i. Children ii. Elderly iii. Physically and mentally handicapped 6. Why we must defend the weak? a. Isiah 1:17, Jeremiah 22:3, Psalm 140:12 b. Proverbs 31:8-9 c. James 1:27 d. Psalm 41:1 e. When we look at the verse, we see that God cares for all especially those who are vulnerable and weak f. When we want to show the love of God, we must show empathy, justice and righteousness g.
