Yesterday was full of magic in the City of Rancho Cordova! We held two drive-thru holiday programs to support Rancho Cordova students and families in need. The ...day kicked off with our fourth annual Holiday STAR (Student Talent Achievement Reward) program! The City of Rancho Cordova Government, RCPD and Rancho Cordova schools (Folsom Cordova Unified School District, Sacramento City Unified School District and Elk Grove Unified School District) recognized 16 preschool and elementary school students in the city who, despite challenging financial circumstances, have worked hard to become high achievers both academically and behaviorally. We presented each student with a new backpack, clothes and shoes, a gift certificate for a free meal at McDonald’s, as well as a $100 gift card to Walmart for a holiday shopping spree, all from the safety of their vehicle. Thank you to our partners for making this event possible: Walmart Rancho Cordova, Famous Footwear, Bearpaw Sacramento, McDonald's, Center of Praise Ministries | Sacramento, CA, Golden State Water Company and Republic Services. Then, RCPD’s Youth Services Unit ensured more than 175 families received gifts for their children for Christmas by hosting the 10th annual Christmas in Cordova! The program featured a drive-thru winter wonderland-themed pick up of new toys handpicked by Rancho Cordova police officers, goodie bags, and gift wrap for parents to wrap the toys for their children. Even Santa stopped by to say hello! Our team enjoyed seeing and supporting these students and families from the safety of their vehicles, and wishes you all a safe and healthy holiday season!
