Happy New Year From prosperous Rose Sober Living
Addiction is a hard enough challenge for an addict and a lot of addicts also develop mental illness due to addiction and need to take psych meds to be able to help them cope with their dual diagnosis. If the meds are taken as prescribed while they are working a program of recovery then thats what it takes for that suffering addict that is battling more than just one battle. Please do not put them down for that. That is called ignorance. This has been done at so many 12-step m...eetings and let me tell you just because you're a recovering addict doesn't make you an expert on addiction or how to treat different addictions!!! Let the experts who actually have degrees in Substance abuse help these clients and stop acting like years of recovery equals you acting like counselors at meetings. We are there for the addict to guide and listen not judge and ridicule the addict into not wanting to go to meetings at all. I am a Substance Abuse counselor and also work with mental health as well as being a recovering addict myself which is why I'm so frustrated with this behavior. Please understand that when someone comes to a meeting thats a big enough step for the newcomer dont be the person that lets your ignorance and "know it all attitude" cause more damage or hurt to the person. EVERYONE DESERVES A SECOND CHANCE!!! Being an old timer doesn't mean we get to act like assholes and forget where we came from. Let's love without judgement. See more

A full life Page 171 "The programs works a miracle in our lives...We become free to live."... Basic Text, p. 11 Most of us - if we've been in recovery for any length of time at all - have heard some member complaining in a meeting about being terribly overworked, too busy for meetings or sponsorship or other activities. In fact, we may have been the complaining member. The days seem so full: job, family and friends, meetings, activities, sponsorship, step work. "There just aren't enough hours in the day," the member complains, "to get everything done and meet everyone's demands on my time!"
A vision of hope Page 170 "Yes, we are a vision of hope..."... Basic Text, p. 53 By the time we reached the end of our road, many of us had lost all hope for a life without the use of drugs. We believed we were destined to die from our disease. What an inspiration it was, then, coming to our first meeting and seeing a room full of addicts who were staying clean! A clean addict is, indeed, a vision of hope.
To watch people recover, to see them help others, to watch loneliness vanish, to see a fellowship grow up about you, to have a host of friends-this is an experience you must not miss. We know you will not want to miss it. Frequent contact with newcomers and with each other is the bright spot in our lives". Alcoholics Anonymous Page 89
Just for Today: Starting today, I'll do whatever I can to realize my dreams.
