Congratulations to San Francisco’s NEW Poet Laureate Tongo Eisen-Martin! He’s a voice of our City and for our times. He is a poet who shows up for community and... for justice! Thanks also to Kim Shuck for putting in an incredible amount of time and energy into her role as Laureate these last 3+ years, and using her platform to advance Indigenous justice. I was proud and humbled to serve on this year’s Selection Committee and extend my gratitude to the leadership of Michelle Jeffers at the San Francisco Public Library and to Mayor London Breed for inviting me to be a part of this process.
