So proud of Garrett Gaston, cousin of Daisy Fresh HQs Michael Gaston. He recently made the move to the PSF competition team here in LA. He got to experience what it’s like to rep this team at no gi pans when the whole clique was there, and it changed something in him/gave him something he was missing and needed ...... real support. We lost our first match at no gi pans to the guy that got third, but what’s important isn’t that match, it’s what Garrett realized .... that he is... surrounded by people that truly want him to succeed on and off the mat, and are there for him no matter the outcome of a match. That little piece of mind translated into something big already ..... Garrett’s best performance in a long time (his words). 4-0 on the day. 2 subs. No points given up. Champ champ. Antonio SkootahSamokat Nelson had his first competition this weekend. He went 3-0 with 3 subs in his bracket. They do things a little weird at JJWL. Antonio’s division was huge and separated onto 3 mats. They gave a gold, silver, and bronze to each mat and then brought the winners back for a championship bracket. Where I’m from it’s just the semis. I didn’t sugar coat that for Antonio. Told he him we had to go get a medal that don’t mean shit and come back for 2 more. We lo...st the semi to another very solid competitor and in the real 3rd place match, we got caught in a kimura from top half guard while winning. Small things. Great first tournament for Antoinio. We know exactly where we need to be for pans and novice worlds. Let’s gooooooo!!! Patrick Short never ceases to amaze me. A few weeks ago he restrained a guy on the street that was beating on a woman and was honored by the El Segundo Police Department. This week, he won both his matches in the gi in dominating fashion to get that first gold medal . Raquel Wajner has only been training about 4 months. She immediately jumped in to compete in the IBJJF with virtually no training. She’s her brothers’ sister, for sure. Yesterday Raq got her first win in the gi, against an opponent that subbed her at IBJJF Dallas. She got her first no gi win yesterday and got her first submission yesterday.
