In the Cherry Tree Carol, performed here by Claire and Shauna, Joseph and Mary are walking among the trees during the final days of Mary's pregnancy. From the "choir is weird in 2020" files: The structural engineers of the OCWC have come up with some frankly ingenious set-ups to film themselves as we work on our very first virtual-choir video! As one second soprano said: "I finally found a use for my ironing board." Please enjoy a few of our architectural feats and consider JUST HOW DEDICATED we are to bringing you beautiful music this season!

On an August night seven years ago, three stray kittens walked into Newport Harbor Lutheran Church during our annual auditions. One of them, a little tortoiseshell girl, ended up being adopted by OCWC soprano and founding member Lisa Claborne. Well, this is Puchica today--or, more specifically, this past Tuesday evening, during our second online rehearsal of the new season. This pandemic is awful in almost every way, but it DID allow Puchica to attend (finally!) her first pra...ctice since her "audition," and it's allowed Lisa to keep singing with us even though she retired and moved to Arizona this summer! As we hope and plan for better days, we're also mindful of the small blessings we can find in the darkness. Sometimes, they take the form of cats. Stay healthy and safe, OCWC friends!

We’re back! This virtual season has started. Not quite the same, but so happy to see all these beautiful, kind, talented women again. Can’t wait to share with you all some of the projects we will be putting together this season.

If we weren’t staying at home right now, we’d give all of you a big hug for helping us not only meet, but blow past, our goal for this weekend’s iOCWC fundraising event. We started with a goal of $8,000, and we ended with a total of more than $11,000and that’s before we add the matching gifts from our board and The Horowitz Group. Your generosity and support have kept us going for 22 years, but they’ve never been more precious than they are during this strange and difficult summer. Thank you for believing in our capacity to survive and thrive, and thanks for sticking with us until we’re able to sing for you the way we want to.
