Excited to present our Cell Chemical Biology paper by UC Berkeley chemical biology grad student Lydia Boike, Alex Cioffi, and Novartis on a covalent ligand targeting an intrinsically disordered cysteine on c-MYC to inhibit MYC activity in cancer cells. Thanks also to the Mark Foundation for Cancer Research! https://www.cell.com/cell-chemical-//S2451-9456(20)30342-1
Congrats to our postdoc Yosuke Isobe on his discovery that multi-covalent natural products can be sources of new molecular glue scaffolds, exemplified by manumycin polyketide asukamycin that multi-covalently glues UBR7 and tumor suppressor p53 to stabilize p53 folding and activate p53 transcriptional activity in cancer cells to induce cancer cell death!
Congrats to co-first authors Bingqi Tong and Jessica Spradlin on the development of nimbolide-based BCR-ABL degraders in this joint paper between our lab and Tom Maimone’s lab!
Happy to see the first wave of papers coming out of our lab and the Novartis-Berkeley Center for Proteomics and Chemistry Technologies!! And thanks to the Co-Leading PIs on these papers, Roberto Zoncu and Tom Maimone, collaborators at UC Berkeley James Olzmann, our partners at Novartis, and the hard-working graduate students and postdocs Jessica Spradlin, Carl Ward, Charles Berdan, Clive Yik Sham Chung, and Hijai (Regina) Shin!! https://www.nature.com/articles/s41589-019-0304...-8 https://www.nature.com/articles/s41589-019-0308-4 https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acschembio.8b01083 https://www.cell.com/cell-chemical-//S2451-9456(19)30112-6 See more

Thanks to Jay Bradner, President of Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research, for visiting the Novartis-Berkeley Center for Proteomics and Chemistry Technologies today at UC Berkeley!! Our team here at Berkeley is super excited to be working with Novartis on tackling the undruggable proteome to cure diseases!
