One of our wonderful parents created this video of last week’s first ever kindergarten graduation. Enjoy!
Throughout the month of meaningful May, we’ve asked our graduating seniors to reflect on what their education means to them. Today, senior Chloe Villalpondo shares her thoughts on what she is taking with her from her New Roads journey as she heads to USC in the fall. Congratulations, Chloe- we can't wait to see what you have in store for the world! And don't forget to make your donation to help New Roads secure a $50k matching gift during the month of Meaningful May! Every dollar makes a difference and supports educational justice and equity! Thank you for joining us in creating meaning this May! Donate at https://www.newroads.org/support/annual-fund

In discussing current events in 6th grade Global History, a student asked if we could talk about the treatment of Uyghur Muslims in China, expressing concern that this is not receiving much media coverage. Her classmates asked, "What can we do about this?" The class then discussed what activism is and conducted scholarly research to acquire facts and better understand what is taking place. As part of their efforts to raise awareness, the students walked to the front of campus today to display posters with facts about what is taking place in China today against Uyghur Muslims.

Bravo to 7th graders Eryn and Nia, who made bags filled with feminine products, masks and goodies for women who are experiencing homelessness. Hollidays Helping Hands, an organization that serves the LA community by assisting women and families with services and temporary housing until they find permanent housing, will distribute the bags.
Immense thanks to Lili, Ella and Ava for presenting our administration with an extraordinary artwork at graduation yesterday. Their painting represents our campus - Ava, Ella and Lili said that they created this art to convey the love and connection they have for New Roads. We are very excited to install the art on campus!

New Roads families, we invite you to the first Parent DEI/Social Justice Interactive Workshop tomorrow evening with Mario Johonson, Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Hala Khouri, MA, SEP. This workshop is a place for parents to learn and talk about antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion together. Check Friday’s Scoop for details.
We the people of New Roads embrace authentic diversity. New Roads is deeply committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as being actively antiracist. In fact, the institution is built on antiracist assumptions. Next week, we will host the first of three interactive workshops, What are Social Justice and Systemic Racism and how do we talk about them?, an experiential and interactive discussion for New Roads families. This workshop is an opportunity for parents to engage in critical conversations about these important ideas together to promote exploration, reflection, and growth. Parents, check your email details. #CommitmentFridays
