Our approach is to demonstrate the development of community-based food systems and to support communities in developing systems of their own where food is grown, prepared, and distributed within the community itself. Working closely with more than 33 community partners, our goal is to build economic opportunity for youth while mitigating food insecurity and limited access to high quality, affordable, and nutritionally-dense food. Eight urban farms operate on 11-acres of land, predominantly located on Chicago’s south side. These farms are production-oriented but also offer opportunities for staff-led education, training, leadership development, and food distribution. Each farm utilizes organic growing methods, intensive growing practices, and year-round production strategies to best maximize growing space. The Nan Washington Global Wellness Foundation is pleased to announce that in response to COVID-19 Shelter in Place restrictions it donated art supplies and board games and physical activities to clients of the mental health agency Occupational Therapy Training Program (OTTP) www.ottp.org The mental health staff at OTTP were not able to go out to the homes to provide their occupational therapy, psychotherapy, parent partner and rehab specialist services in person and client...s are not able to come to the office unless it’s an emergency or for psychiatric medication services, therefore they were in need of activities to use with the clients and their families via Telehealth. There was also a need for clients to have their own board games and supplies for them to engage in mood enhancing activities with their families during this shelter in place time period in their homes. Due to your generous donations TNWGWF was able to purchase highly requested Uno cards, Trouble, Connect 4, Headbanz, Playdoh, Jenga, crayons, colored pencils, pens, pencils and drawing and writing paper. This has been an extremely difficult time and these supplies put lots of smiles on the children’s faces. We also want to thank Because We Believe Ministries for recognizing the essential workers at OTTP and for providing snacks and treats to them during the work week.
