Soroptimist International of Riverside will hold its 25th annual Valentine Auction as a virtual event. The auction will run from 9 a.m. Saturday through 11:45 p.m. Wednesday at 32auctions.com/SIRVDA2021 Auction items may also be viewed before the auction opens.... The event is Soroptimist International of Riverside’s primary fundraiser of the year. Soroptimist International of Riverside is a volunteer organization that works to improve the lives of women and girls by helping to provide access to education and training. The group also honors local women who have contributed to the community. Funds raised through the Valentine Auction will help fund scholarships and awards. Last year Soroptimist International of Riverside awarded more than $13,000 to local women and girls, according to a news release. Recipients included Mary Figueroa, Gold Key Award; Samantha Gutierrez, Dream It, Be It Scholarship; Karen Patel, Grace Tirado and Samantha Rincon, Student Volunteer Awards; Liliana Sotello and Angela Perry, Live Your Dream Education and Training Awards. Soroptimist International of the Americas Inc. has disbursed almost $35 million in Live Your Dream Awards since the program began in 1972, according to the news release. This year, the California Botanic Garden in Claremont is replacing its annual Family Bird Festival with bird-related activities throughout the month of February. Activities include a Bird Month Scavenger Hunt, a Bird Month Photo Contest and an iNaturalist Bird Contest. These activities are all free with general admission to the California Botanic Garden. Arthropolooza: The Ultimate Bugfest will be a virtual event this year on the San Bernardino County Museum and Victor Valley Museum’s Facebook and Instagram pages. The Feb. 13-14 event, the museums’ annual celebration of arthropods, features all things creepy, crawly, sticky, prickly, wiggly, yucky and kinda cute, according to a news release.
