Most injuries I see are non- contact injuries, meaning they didn't occur due to acute trauma (fall, tackle, etc.). This means that your habitual movements created that injury but tiny bits of trauma over time So keep in mind during your rehab or time of healing that there is still more on your plate than just this injury. If you aren't also addressing the CAUSE then you are doomed to repeat it. It's better to take the extra effort now than continue to be sidelined in the f...uture. #Repost @thefootcollective (@get_repost) Injuries aren’t very fun but guess what?......your body is a healing machine and will repair itself if you simply let it Every injury is a learning experience. An opportunity to analyze if there is a chink in your armour. A weakness you didn’t know about, an area that was lacking mobility, an opportunity to improve your reaction time . Every time you feel pain, every time an injury comes up - you have an opportunity to learn how to prevent it from happening again . You have the power to create a resilient machine, you just need to listen and learn from it and injuries are a great wake up call to start tuning in #thefootcollective #health #injury #pain #painfree #learn #uptoyou #movement #athlete #resilient #injuryprevention #education #physicaltherapy #prehab #ottawa #human #medicine #learn #studentofthebody

Once again, if you don't use it, YOU LOSE IT! #Repost @optimize.physiotherapy (@get_repost) JOINT HYGIENE ... Hygiene = A set of practices performed to preserve health. This concept can be applied to any form of practices that are implemented to preserve health, and it applies well to joint health and the musculoskeletal system. Maintaining joint mobility is a critical factor when it comes to maintaining healthy joints, healthy movement, and a healthy body capable of movement. Joint mobility can be thought of as the ability of any given joint to articulate like it has the potential to. Like it or not, the way that modern society is currently set up creates the need to incorporate some form of joint hygiene into your life. Not exposing your joints to a variety positions on a regular basis can rob the body of its joint mobility over time. This often comes in the form of ‘tightness’, ‘stiffness’, losing fundamental positions etc. A joint hygiene practice can help you maintain your joint mobility and subsequent movement capacity over time. The ‘use it or lose it’ principle is at work here. It can be 5-10 minutes per day to start, even 1-2 minutes a day. Any mobility practice that challenges your body’s positions and demands active control is key. Couple with with a slightly more movement rich lifestyle and you are well on your way. Movement freedom depends on a baseline level of joint mobility. And movement freedom allows us to express movement well into our older years. Start thinking of joint hygiene like you think of tooth hygiene. Both are important for the maintenance of health, and movement is one of the fundamental pillars of health that you can’t afford to lose prematurely. #health #healthy #healthylifestyle #lifestyle #life #squats #squat #gym #mobility #movement #physiotherapy #physicaltherapy #fitness #fit #fitfam #wellness #holistichealth #medicine #hygiene #ottawa #toronto #exercise #stretching #flexibility #yoga #crossfit #tips #feelgood See more

How well can you balance on one leg? If your answer is anything less than "like a champ" then you have work to do. At least 80% of walking is done on one foot. Running adds landing, force absorption, and propulsion all on one leg. So if you struggle to balance on one limb for more than a few seconds then you may be setting yourself up for injury. Try adding balancing into your day... while brushing your teeth, standing in line at the store, washing dishes... you get the idea. Consider this a challenge! I am NOT bashing degrees,...I am a college professor for goodness sake. I preach degrees. The point of this post is that the difference between a professional and a great professional is what they do with that degree. Whether it's a PT, MD, personal trainer, or anyone else, your degree only goes so far. We can't teach or learn everything in a few years so we teach the foundation. It's not the bible. The great professionals are the ones who take that foundation and bui...ld on it, critically think about it, and make their own conclusions. This field is not one size fits all because every body, injury, and dysfunction is completely unique. Find someone who looks at YOUR issue, and not your ISSUE. Treat the person and not the diagnosis, and you will always be successful. #movementintegrity #movewell #moveoften #move #health #wellness #functionalstrengthandconditioning #livewell #functionaltraining #strength #mobility #injuryprevention See more

It's not always about adding a bunch of exercises to your day to fix your problems. Start with removing the factors that are contributing to your issues and then build from there. You can't stop a flood if you don't stop the flow of water.
