If you have a business, then you're required to keep books and records of all your transactions. For many this is a tedious task because they don't have the time, they don't know how to do bookkeeping, or what they are recording is too unorganized to be useful to the owner. Hiring a professional saves you countless hours of going over all your transactions and best part is you get information that is organized and useful...for example a profit & loss statement that you see ...each month to see how well your business is doing. Here's an example that I just did for a new restaurant business who needed their tax return prepared and had no bookkeeping done for past 12 months. Restaurant had about 2,400 transactions for the 12 months. The turnaround for this was around only 18 hours total to get the books in order and the tax return was prepared in same week! Compare this to if the owner had tried to put the books together. It would have taken weeks for that volume of transactions not to mention it would have most likely not been accurate enough for tax prep, which would have required more CPA adjustments and time spent on fixing errors. If you owe the IRS in back taxes, setting up an installment agreement or payment plan is the best way to avoid notices, collections, ruined credit and further dealing with the IRS. A lot of times the tax debt is for multiple years and becomes to big to pay at once. I setup these payment plans with a power of attorney and negotiate the monthly payment for the client. The IRS is usually reasonable with the amount of monthly payment they will accept...for example on $8,000 tax debt, you can get $150/monthly payment. Once the payment plan is in place, the IRS automatically withdraws the amount electronically from your bank account that I setup. Call me if you're having tax problems with the IRS or state.
