When can you start tummy time? DAY ONE! An early start with tummy time helps increase tolerance and leads to your baby getting stronger every day.
As a pediatric occupational therapist specializing in infant development, I cannot stress the importance of tummy time. -Vanessa Recinto MOT, OTR/L, LKS Infant Occupational Therapist Tummy time provides the opportunity for our babies to build muscle strength and control. It aids overall development, and we recommend an early start to tummy time. Click the link in the bio to find out more!
A little springtime craft for your weekend! Step 1: Trace hand, but DON'T trace the middle finger. Skip it! Step 2: Draw a line to connect the space between the fingers. Step 3: Draw a bunny face and outline the bunny ears! Add two half circles to make the feet, and don't forget bunny toes!... Step 4: Color and decorate the face and body however you choose! Step 5: Cut out your bunny shape. Step 6: Fold the side "fingers" inward to form arms. Don't forget to color the back! Now your bunny can play "peek-a-boo"
Happy Autism Awareness Day! Let’s keep educating ourselves and others about Autism and other Neurodiversities!
All big things come from small beginnings- LKS and Associates Swipe to see how it all started! Two years ago Lisa Klein was working from her home with a make shift sign on her front door...... and look where LKS and Associates is now!
Meet Alexa. Alexa is a Speech-Language Pathologist and also specializes in Orofacial Myofunctional disorders. Alexa believes that therapy should be enjoyable and a place where development and progress are facilitated through fun, engaging, and meaningful learning opportunities. She puts family-centered care at the forefront of her practice, knowing that parent involvement is integral to success in treatment.
Happy President’s Day! The Klein family enjoyed the weekend with a road trip to Joshua Tree. A time to disconnect to reconnect.
It is always now. Be present in this moment. Everything else can wait.
As we close the second week in our new home, we reflect on the blessings of last year and find peace in the present moment.

Last night our small team gathered for a socially distanced holiday happy hour. Although this tradition looked different in the past at a restaurant, mask free we still enjoyed the time just the same. While sneaking sips of wine and bites of treats under our masks, we reflected on this past year, shared stories, laughed, and expressed our hopes for the new year. We are wishing you all a happy holiday season and a wonderful new year.

Does your child engage in ‘W’ sitting? Let’s correct them. Children ‘W’ sit to gain a wider support base, but it is not a functional seating position because it: places and locks the pelvis in a posterior tilt position, ... limits proper activation of the core, back, and shoulders and, can lead to difficulties with fine motor skills and bilateral hand coordination. Instead, encourage your child to sit ‘criss-cross apple sauce’ or sit with their legs straight out. These sitting positions strengthen the back’s muscles that hold the shoulders upright, strengthen the lower body’s muscles, and levels the hips. #WhoYouLearnFromMatters #occupationaltherapy
Calming down your breath influences your physical and emotional state. When we teach our children to slow down and breathe, we provide them with a valuable self-regulation tool. Ways to initiate breath control: Have fun watching a pinwheel spin as your child practices turning it by using their breath.... Blow bubbles. Count how many bubbles they can pop. Try Butterfly breaths- inhale as you open your arms and bring your wings up to the sky, and as you exhale, bring your wings back down to your sides. Repeat 3-4 times! Pretend to smell a flower by taking a deep breath in through your nose, hold it for a second, and then exhale out through your mouth with a sigh. Model deep breathing; your child will catch on! Slow down your breath, breathe at a volume your child can hear, and watch them follow along! #WhoYouLearnFromMatters See more

Communication is not just the words we say. Gestures, facial expressions, tone of voice, eye contact, lack of eye contact, body language, and posture contribute to communication. But sometimes verbal and nonverbal skills are difficult for a child, and that’s okay. We believe everyone can participate in meaningful communication when provided the right tools and education. October is AAC Awareness Month and celebrated around the world. The goal is to raise awareness of augmen...tative and alternative communication (AAC) and to inform the public about the many different ways in which people communicate using communication devices - isaac. AAC systems provide the user with a method for active communication which enhances their ability to develop independence and participate in meaningful activities such as, education, social gatherings and, decision making. Types of Alternative Communication: Sign Language Pictures Visual Boards Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) Low-Tech Communication Devices High-Tech Communication Devices Tablet or Smart Phone AAC Apps We are happy to schedule time with our AAC specialist, Jeni Bakula MS CCC-SLP, for more information.
