A new beginning is here! I woke up this morning completely agitated. The week had brought more challenges in raising kids of color in our current environment. Challenges of being seen and heard for both me and for them. Challenges of preventing my kids from being tracked into classes or schools that are beneath their capacity. A walk on the beach served to clear my head and by the time I was done several things felt better. Yes there would always be challenges to fight ag...ainst. But... by the end of my walk a new president has been declared and this will change the way my children view their lives every day. I also had remembered that two of our five kids were successfully into college and a third was on her way. I remembered that we had learned lessons from each experience and now had the skill set to recognize the early warning signs and advocate for change. And I recalled a dear friend who has said to me on multiple occasions that Ron and I are our kids best secret weapon. I think that being by the ocean clears my head and gives me renewed perspective and gratitude, but today, it might also be related to the beginning of a new day for our country.
