It's always a dream come true when a cover (understudy) gets the chance to step out of the shadow and sing a dream role. Come hear Aurica Avonaires tonight as Violetta!! Aurica is a Russian-American soprano who grew up in Moscow, one of the most impressive cultural centers in the world. She graduated from GITIS with Master’s degree and highest honors as an actress. Later she received her musical education from Moscow State University of Culture and Arts graduating again with ...Master’s degree and highest honors. Aurica took part and became the laureate of the second prize of the XXI Century Art Italy, Lonigo; Second prize of International voice Competition (Solo Vocal) Ukraine, Kiev; Second prize of the Russian patriotic songs competition. Twice she has been the recipient of grants provided by The Russian Performing Art Public Foundation. Aurica made her opera debut in the title role of Iolanta by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. She performed with various orchestras including: the Brass band orchestra of the Bolshoi theatre, Moscow Concerts brass orchestra, the Moscow Youth Chamber Orchestra, the Moscow Big Folk orchestra. Tonight is the big night!! We open at 7:30 pm at Hollywood Lutheran Church with our RED cast, featuring tenor Ara Karapetian as Alfredo. Tenor Ara Karapetian has had a fruitful career singing around the world, most notably around his home of Tehran, Iran. He has sung the roles of Tamino in Magic Flute, as well as Gherardo in Gianni Schicchi. Most notably his is work in oratorio, chamber, and sacred music. In Tehran, he was tenor soloist for Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Nicholas Mass, Verdi’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. He is excited to be working in Los Angeles and meeting new people and colleagues in the Classical music world. Folks, this is a REAL STAR in the making. Just wait until you hear him. Our final dress last night featured soprano Carol Winston as Violetta, and she brought the house down - absolutely amazing!! Originally from San Francisco, Soprano, Carol Winston, studied at University of California, Santa Barbara, earning a B.A. in Music. Recent operatic roles include Diana in Orpheus in the Underworld, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Adele in Die Fledermaus Frasquita in Carmen and Zerlina in Don Giovanni with San Gabriel Valley based local opera co...mpanies. A fan of Zarzuela (Spanish Operetta), Carol sang Duchess Carolina in Luisa Fernanda and Marte in Duron’s Salir el Amor del Mundo at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica and has performed in Zarzuelas with the Jarvis Conservatory in Napa. A Gilbert and Sullivan specialist, Carol toured nationally with Opera a la Carte as Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Yum-Yum in The Mikado, Gianetta in The Gondoliers, the title role in Patience and Laeticia in The Zoo. She performed at the G&S Festival in Boulder, CO under the direction of John Reed. Carol has worked extensively in outreach programs with companies such as Los Angeles Opera, Opera Pacific, Southland Opera (now Southland Sings), Guild Opera and Orange County Opera. She played the title role in Little Red Riding Hood, and originated the title role of Estrella in Guild Opera’s bilingual children’s opera. Carol maintains a private voice and piano studio.
