Happy Mid-Autumn Festival and best wishes to you and your loved ones! Don't forget to catch the first supermoon to coincide with a lunar eclipse in over 30 years. The next one will not occur for another 18 years. The eclipse will cast the moon into shadow beginning at 5:11 p.m. PST. The total eclipse starts at 7:11 p.m. PST, peaking at 7:47 p.m. PST.

College admissions rates at top universities have hit a new low. Our own Mrs. Barbarics' (Ms. Liu's) alma mater, Stanford, admitted only 5%, which was the lowest in the country. http://www.nytimes.com//led-by-stanfords-5-top-colleges-ac

As promised, here's a Chinese article concerning the big changes to the SAT I. http://m.udn.com/xhtml/ViewFreeArticle

Huntington Education 20.06.2020

The SAT I exam is changing in 2016! Collegeboard wants the test to be aligned more closely to the Common Core and what high school students are learning in their English and math classes. The test is returning to the old 1600-point scale with the optional essay having a separate score. They are aiming for evidence-based reading and writing. Instead of testing uncommon vocabulary words, they want to test understanding in context and will also ask students to identify the lines... in the passage that support their answer. The writing portion will no longer be a 25-minute open-ended essay with a prompt such as, "Is failure necessary for success?" The new essay portion will allow 50 minutes to analyze a passage and explain how the author builds an argument. The math section will be more narrowly focused on topics like functions, linear equations, and proportional reasoning. Also, there will be no more guessing penalty. What do you think of the changes? http://www.nytimes.com//major-changes-in-sat-announced-by- #Education #learning #article #math #English #SAT #testing Justin Liu, Irisa Liu
