Former Hemet Fire Chief Matt Shobert served our city for 3 years before leaving for Murrieta Fire & Rescue. Matt was involved in a random accident one day while working in Murrieta that left him critically injured and would change his life forever. This is his story of survival and now living with PTSD. Thank you for your service Chief Shobert, Hemet Firefighters past and present still miss you and appreciate your contributions to the HFD. This evening your Hemet Firefighters responded to a commercial structure at a vacant building on Ramona just south of Florida Ave. Engines 1,2,3, Truck 4, Medic 1 and Medic 5 responded and had the fire knocked down in just under 20 minutes. Thanks to Tim Franzese of Public Safety Incidents for the video and photo coverage of this incident. Today our crew who has been assigned to the OES Strike Team is returning home after a 14 day assignment that started at the El Dorado Fire in Yucaipa and ended at the Glass Fire in St Helena. They were relieved by a new HFD crew who arrived yesterday afternoon and will continue providing mutual aid on OES 352 at the Glass fire. Welcome home Captain Brown, Engineer/Paramedic Wilson, and Firefighter/Paramedic Rosenberg. Our Brush 1 crew that was part of Task Force 6080 returned back to the city yesterday after a two week assignment. Brush 1 started at the El Dorado Fire in Yucaipa and then was reassigned to the Castle Fire in the Sequoia National Forest. The Hemet Firefighters Association is deeply saddened to hear about the passing of San Bernardino County Fire Engineer Cory Norton.
